Andrew Song had always been a petite boy with a feminine face. Even though life was hard and every day was a struggle, he was a happy and responsible child. At an early age, he learned how to take care of himself and help his parents. Life was hard, but they were content with the little blessings of getting by every day.
They were happy regardless of the challenges. Growing up, he believed one day, once he was old enough, he would work hard to give his parents the life they deserved. It was his dream and life goal at the tender age of ten.
But alas, only a couple of years later, that dream came crashing down.
A particular company claimed the land where the Song Family lived, and due to this, they were asked to leave the property. Not just them, but many families had lived on that piece of land for many years. Some were even born and raised there and now had a family of their own.
How could they accept that?
Even if all those families had built their homes on another person's property illegally, they just couldn't accept it. Regardless of what the LYON Group offered them as compensation, for some of them, it wasn't about money. It was more about their pride and their rights.
Thus, the tension between the said company and the residents rose.
The tension was so bad it was even in the news. Some of these people protested and barricaded their homes against the demolition team. This lasted for months as the LYON Group set an ultimatum and grace period for the residents to vacate the land.
Others accepted the company's offer as the LYON Group had offered shelter and money for the families to start anew. But some just wouldn't stop resisting, and hence, a riot broke out when the demolition team proceeded to demolish the illegal houses established on that piece of land.
The residents resisted, fighting with their lives on the line. With the situation growing aggressive, the demolition team and the authorities had no other choice but to defend themselves. Shots were fired, weapons were raised, and even bottles with lit rags in them flew in the air.
It was a disaster as everything quickly went out of control, causing a huge fire in the said land.
As the fire quickly spread, both protesters and the authorities fled to save their lives. However, some unlucky ones failed to save themselves. Five people, to be exact, and then fifteen were injured — both from the two parties.
It was a tragic story for everyone, especially those who had lost a family because of that incident.
Why did it have to reach that point?
One could say it was because the LYON Group was greedy and didn't have regard for other people's lives. While some would argue, the residents should've just agreed with the company's offer. After all, they squatted on a property illegally and they were already lucky to get compensated.
It depends on which side one was looking at.
And Jennie couldn't take sides because she understood both sides to a certain degree. Moreover, she believed her thoughts regarding this were not necessary. This happened seventeen years ago, and thus, there was nothing she could do to change the past.
Andrew Song lived the next seventeen years of his life all on his own, waking up and sleeping with a vengeful heart. He changed, not just in his appearance and gender, but also in his priorities. Instead of working hard to give the life his hardworking parents deserved, he got involved in illegal activities.
Now, not only he was involved in petty crimes but he had gone deeper into the darker side as he could now commit murder. Jane might have woken up in this body, but Andrew Song, now Andrea Ng, murdered Jennie Kim.
"Why though?" Jennie whispered, staring at the unconscious Andrea while squatting down.
"Ugh..." Andrea grunted, blinking weakly. When her vision grew clearer, she immediately recognized who was the blurry figure squatting in front of her. Her eyes instantly went wide as all her senses heightened.
What was Jennie doing here again?
"Why?" Andrea's brows rose in confusion as Jennie suddenly asked her a question. "Why did you kill me?"
'Huh?' It took Andrea a few seconds to process Jennie's question, sneering as she rolled her eyes.
"You ate," Jennie pointed out, glancing down at the floor between the two of them. Her approach this time was calm.
The food she spilled this morning was gone, leaving only a few grains of rice and some sauces on the floor. It was almost clean, as if Andrea licked everything she could reach. How pitiful, but to survive was her goal.
When Jennie snapped her eyes back to the maid, a shallow breath slipped past her nostrils. "Why?"
"Do you think you'd get answers from me?" Andrea scowled at her defiantly. "After making me eat on the floor like a dog, what made you think I'd say anything? Even if you beat me up, I will not say a word. If I were you, just kill me because if I get out of here alive, you will not get out of this situation unharmed. I'll make sure that I will bring you and the entire Manoban Family down."
"Why did you choose this path?" Jennie ignored Andrea's remarks as she continued her previous question. "You had a choice, but you chose this path of no return. I was wondering just how foolish you are to resolve a problem with a bigger problem. But now, I sort of know why."
"You are simply foolish, Andrew Song," Jennie added, stressing Andrea's original name that made the latter's eyes dilate. "I don't need answers from you. I got what I wanted — seventeen years ago, a boy named Andrew Song lost his parents in an incident that took place in Terra District. He lived with his auntie until he was seventeen before eventually fleeing home because of the maltreatment and abuse. Since then, the homeless Andrew Song started doing petty crimes and then fell into drug addiction. He then got involved in a gang, which was now after your ass because you stole from them. Knowing life outside guarantees your death, you wanted to exact your almost forgotten revenge because, at the back of your head, you blamed the Manoban Family for how your life spiraled down."
