It all started when Lucas took an interest in an illegal drag race some time ago. Lucas's growing boredom tempted him to race despite his suspension from the professional racetrack.
At first, everything was wonderful and well. He had won a few races and made a small connection with the people in these events.
Until a few days ago, Lucas went to this event, where he signed up as one of the participants.
He didn't expect anything and, knowing him, he was confident about winning again. Little did he know, this confidence had annoyed a few people. Thus, in the middle of racing, he halted when a few cars blocked his path.
That was where the beating happened.
These people, whom Lucas defeated in the previous bets, ambushed him. However, these people were aware of which family Lucas came from. Therefore, they cleverly hit him in places he could hide.
"Why didn't you tell your brother?" Jennie asked coldly, staring at the apologetic Lucas.
The two of them were still standing outside the vehicle while Lucas summarized what happened. Jennie wouldn't let him go unless he does.
"What would I tell him? That his brother is involved in illegal gambling?" he mumbled, feeling like he was shrinking under her icy gaze. "Do you know what he would do if he heard about this? He'll kill me."
"That's better than dying from those guys."
Lucas frowned, but he couldn't rebut her remarks. He was not in the position to be stubborn, knowing Jennie might tattle him to Lisa. Worse. His parents and even Grandma Manoban would hear about this!
"Is that why you were sick, then?" she asked through her gritted teeth, making his brows raise.
"Hmm?"
"That day Bear carried you to the clinic. Were you beaten that night before?"
Reluctance flickered across his eyes before he nodded.
"I see." Jennie rocked her head as she ran her fingers through her hair in distress. Another deep exhale slipped from her parted lips, snapping her eyes back to him. "Where are these guys now?"
"What?"
"I said, where are these guys now?" she repeated, stressing each syllable to make it clearer.
"Why?" he blurted out, confused. However, all he received from her was a poker face. "Well, about that... I don't know. I just meet those guys during the events. So, I don't know."
"Give me your contact in those events."
"Huh?"
"Do I have to repeat myself every time?" another layer of frost covered her eyes. "Give me your contact. The one who notifies you when there's another race. Give it to me."
Lucas furrowed his brows, but seeing the look on her face, he couldn't help but slide his eyes into the corner. He reluctantly shoved his hand inside his pocket, fishing his phone out.
"There," he said after tapping a few times on his phone. "That's the number who texts me."
Jennie took her phone out and checked the number. "Do you know where he lives?"
"Huh?" Lucas bit his tongue when Jennie cast him a cold glare. "No. But I know he frequents this bar."
"Okay." Jennie put her phone back and walked away. "I'll deal with them once I finish the paperwork."
"Deal with them later?" Lucas mumbled to himself, staring at Jennie's back. "What did she mean by deal with them?"
Jennie stopped in her tracks, making him flinch when she looked back at him. "Don't just stand there."
"Oh... right." Lucas dragged his feet, following his sister-in-law to finish her business with Clement.
Meanwhile, watching from the second floor of the office was Bear. He cocked his head to the side, wondering what were Jennie and Lucas discussing so seriously.
'She seemed pissed,' he thought as this was the first time he had seen that look on her face. 'Just what did the second young master do to piss her off?'
Bear didn't plan on prying what Lucas and Jennie talked about when they finish test-driving. However, it was inevitable for him to know the summary of what happened.

"Sister..." Lucas pouted, looking at the person on the other side of the backseat. "You don't have to meet that person. I mean, I already learned my lesson. I don't plan on going in on those events anymore!"
Jennie didn't even look at him, folding her arms under her chest. "Bear, drive faster."
"Yes." Bear picked up his speed, bearing a conflicted look. 'This bar we're heading... this person she wanted to meet isn't Bobby, right?'
Bear winced at the thought, knowing this old friend of his was into these sorts of events. The last time he heard, Bobby was arranging an illegal drag race. Bear felt his head throb for a moment, as he felt like his old friend shouldn't have let this thing happen.
Lucas was a Manoban, for Pete's sake!
'If Lisa Manoban heard about what happened, I'm sure that stubborn felon will serve time.' His expression turned sour at the thought, glancing at the rear mirror to look at Jennie. 'Though I'm not sure if having her know about it was good either.'
'Ugh... this second young master. Why did he have to take part in such things when he can rent an entire racetrack for himself?' Bear shifted his gaze to the other person in the backseat. 'Does he know that the only people who joined such things were mostly felons? It's already a miracle they just beat him up.'
What Bear thought was what exactly angered Jennie. They both knew what sort of people these illegal drag races had, and they were the type who would do anything to win, be it through means or foul. Not just that, but they were people whose greed was insatiable.
"Sister, let it go just this once, hmm?" Lucas persuaded, placing his palms together. "I will never take part in these things anymore! I promise!"
Jennie slowly turned her head, facing him squarely. "If you think keeping your distance from them will give you peace, that's where you are wrong, Lucas. They touched you once, and they would do it again. They wouldn't dare do what they did if they got nothing on you. Your name... is already on the list of people they can extort once they run out of money."
"Do you think they let you live because they aren't capable of murder?" she added, scoffing at this brother-in-law's naivety. "How naive, Lucas. They beat you up because you'd be useful in the future once they ran out of money. Use this time toreflect and understand just how serious this was."
