Ch-89 : Black Swan

Your breath was caught in your throat as all eyes were glued to Chan waiting for him to speak. Was it finally time he rejected you? Was this when he realises he doesn't want you? That he can live just fine without you? Should you stop him? Should you stop Mrs.Bai? Should you fight for yourself or should you let your happiness be taken away because someone else needs it more? Is he even thinking of you right now? Are you on his mind right now? Or are you completely forgotten? Were you even that important to him in the first place?

Your heartbeat thrummed in your years to fill the defeaning sound of Chan's silence. He is thinking about it. He is thinking of rejecting you isnt he-

Chan: Your daughter is safe. Juno made sure of that. As for my duty as the alpha... I've made sure nothing within or outside the pack is a danger to her. The only danger to her is her ownself. That is something I cannot control.

Hw hung his head low staring at the tiled floor, unwilling to look at Mrs. Bái.

Mrs. Bái: Chan a life is at stake here!

Chan: She's the only one who can save herself.

Mrs. Bái: Chan please think about it! You haven't found your mate and Snow is beautiful. She will make a really good mate to you Chan. Please...

This time Chan looked up at her with a small smile as he spoke.

Chan: And what do I tell my mate when I find her?

Mr.Snow: I'm sure your mate will understand, they should- A life is at stake here! Who would be that inhuman to not care that a person almost died? Such inhuman people were last seen during the war. Not caring about others' lives!

Seungmin squeezed your shoulder as he felt your body stiffen beside him. Felix clenched his jaw to keep himself from bursting out. But Chan only chuckled humorlesly and shook his head.

Chan: She's the only one who can save herself.

Mrs. Bái's protests were cut short by the nurse coming to infrom that Snow had woken up and her parents were allowed to see her.

In their absence none of you spoke a word. You couldn't understand what to think. Did Chan think of rejecting of you? Or is he just trying to convince himself he can't help? Months ago you were ready to be rejected by him but now even the thought of him considering rejecting you for a moment pained you. You would've given anything to read his thoughts right now.

You were pulled out of your thoughts by Snow's parents coming out of her room.

Mrs. Bái: Chan, she wants to see you...

Chan nodded and headed inside.

Inside:

A weak smile graced Snow's soft features as she saw Chan. She waited for him to come close to the bed before speaking.

Snow: I knew you cared for me.

Chan: I do care for you but what you did was reckless.

Snow: It's okay...

She slipped her hand into Chan's and held it.

Snow: You love me and I'm alive because you brought me here. I knew it was stupid of me but you realised your love for me. That's all that matters.

Smiling she brushed her thumb over Chan's knuckles but was suprised when Chan removed her hand from his and placed hers back in her lap.

Chan: I love you but as a friend. You're a precious friend to me who I don't want to lose. So, I hope you don't do something stupid like this again. Lives are precious and not meant to be thrown away like that. There are people who are fighting to survive. Don't give away your life for such a small thing like a rejection.

A mixture of hurt and frustration could be seen on Snow's face.

Snow: Then why did you immediately rush to me and bring me here? Don't you see? It's not a small thing for me! I proved I am ready to give up my life for you! Can Juno do that for you? You've barely known her for a while. She doesn't know anything about you. What can she even do for you?

Chan: Juno brought you here.

Snow's eyes widened by the realisation.

Snow: no...

Chan: If you're alive it's because of her. I will be always thankful to her for saving my friend's life even if you're not grateful for that.

Snow: You're lying...

Chan: I'm not.

You were standing beside Seungmin while looking at the floor blankly when the door to Snow's room slammed open revealing an fuminh Snow glaring at you.

Snow: YOU!

She stomps over to you piercing you with manic glare.

Snow: WHY? WHY DID YOU BRING ME TO THE HOSPITAL? DIDN'T I MAKE IT CLEAR? I DON'T WANT TO LIVE! YOU WANTED TO LOOK LIKE A HERO, A SAVIOR, DIDN'T YOU? THE GOODY TWO SHOES?

Mrs.Bái: Don't yell dear. You're just stressing yourself out.

Snow paid no heed to her mother and kept walking closer to you while you stood your ground.

Snow: Stay away, mom! C'mon Juno, if you're that nice then give up on Chan!

Felix: Snow-

Snow: I'm not talking to you. C'mon Juno. Be nice. Reject him. A person almost died. You don't want anyone to die, right?

Her eyes were glazed with malice as they bore into yours her tone bitterly sweet.

Snow: C'mon, Juno. You're a nice person. Be nice like you've always pretended to be! Reject him! Right now! CMON!

Juno: i can't do that.

You said every word carefully looking into her eyes as you could see her face slowly twisting. You were slammed into the wall by force with hands wrapped strongly around your neck.

Seungmin and Felix stood on their spots trying to contain their protective instincts towards their alpha. Knowing that you can protect yourself was a bit of relief but when you didn't fight back they became confused.

Mrs.Bái: Snow dear, please stop! You're stressing yourself out!

She was right. Snow was weak and yet, she was just stressing herself out letting the anger take over her, not paying heed to her mother's pleads. All she saw was red. Increasing the pressure on your throat a little by little she tried to kill you by suffocating you.

Snow: C'mon, hit me. Save yourself. Push me away, get angry. Do it. DO IT! FUCKING HIT ME BITCH!

You could see her getting worked up as her efforts to aggravate you went in vain. You stood still not moving an inch. A weak grip like hers wasn't going to kill you. Maybe a bruise might be evident but nothing more than that. She squeezed your throat more to get a reaction from you. And she did. But not from you.

"Get your hands off her."
