(24th January 2019)

The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a golden glow over the river as Taylor and Travis sat side by side on their usual bench. The familiar sound of water flowing beneath them provided a soothing backdrop to their conversation.

Taylor broke the comfortable silence first, curiosity evident in her voice. "So, did you always want to play football?"

Travis's eyes lit up with a familiar spark, his love for the game evident in his expression. "Yeah, football was the only thing I ever wanted to do growing up. I wasn't exactly a star student—barely made it through school and college, to be honest—but football... football's been the one constant in my life. It's the only thing that's ever made sense in this crazy world."

Taylor smiled, her heart warming at his passion. "I get it. I think music's that for me, too. There's something about having that one thing, you know? It gives everything else a purpose."

A moment of silence settled between them, not awkward, but filled with mutual understanding. Taylor glanced at Travis, her curiosity piqued again. "Your brother plays in the NFL too, right?"

Travis nodded proudly. "Yeah, Jase plays for the Eagles."

Taylor's eyes twinkled with mischief as she leaned back, crossing her arms playfully. "Oh, is that right? My dad is an Eagles fan through and through, and I'm a Philly girl at heart. I've seen the Eagles play quite a bit growing up."

Travis feigned a dramatic heartache, clutching his chest as if wounded. "And here I thought we were friends, Taylor, but you've just stabbed me right in the heart. Supporting the Eagles of all teams? I'm devastated."

Taylor let out a laugh, a sound that Travis found himself wishing he could bottle up and keep with him always. There was something about her laughter—so genuine, so free—that made the world feel a little less heavy.

"Okay," Taylor teased, her eyes dancing with amusement, "If you really want to be friends, you'll have to get me Jason's autograph for my dad. No autographs, no friendship."

Travis gasped in mock horror. "You drive a hard bargain, Doc. I'd rather have you as my enemy."

Taylor raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. "Trust me, Travis Michael Kelce, you don't want me as your enemy. I can be a nightmare dressed like a daydream."

Travis's eyes widened in exaggerated admiration. "Whoa, that was an epic punchline, Doc. Where'd you get that one from?"

Taylor simply shrugged, pointing to her head with a coy smile. "Comes with the territory."

Travis laughed, the sound rich and warm, and Taylor joined in, the two of them momentarily forgetting the weight of what was to come. Their laughter echoed across the river, blending with the sound of the water in a perfect harmony.

As their laughter subsided, a comfortable silence fell between them, the kind that only comes with growing trust and mutual respect. But the weight of the upcoming surgery hung in the air, and Travis's thoughts drifted back to the uncertainty that lay ahead.

With a heavy voice, he finally broke the silence, his tone serious. "You think I'll be able to play again?"

Taylor felt her heart clench. As his friend, she wanted to say yes without hesitation, to give him the reassurance he so desperately needed. But as his doctor, she knew she had to be honest, to manage his expectations while still offering hope.

She took a deep breath before speaking, her voice gentle but firm. "Look, Travis, over the past few months, we've made significant progress. If the surgery goes well—and I'm confident it will—followed by post-op treatment and physio, I'm looking forward to seeing you play again. But I won't lie to you—it's going to be a long road. You'll have to be strong, mentally and physically. But you've already shown that strength, every single day."

Travis nodded slowly, processing her words. He appreciated her honesty, even though it didn't erase the fear gnawing at him. "Thanks, Taylor. I needed to hear that."

Taylor checked her wristwatch, noting the time. "Alright, let's call it a day. You need to rest up for tomorrow."

Travis nodded again, this time with a small, determined smile. "Yeah, you're right. But, hey, no matter what happens tomorrow, thanks for being in my corner. It means a lot."

Taylor smiled back, touched by his words. "I wouldn't be anywhere else, Travis. Now go get some rest, and we'll tackle tomorrow together."

As they stood up and began walking back to the hospital, side by side, Taylor couldn't help but feel a deepening sense of connection to Travis—a bond that was growing stronger with each passing day. And she knew, whatever tomorrow brought, they would face it together.
