Taylor sat in the waiting area with Jason and Donna, trying to distract herself by working on some paperwork she had brought along. But her mind kept drifting back to Travis, the anxiety gnawing at her resolve. She knew the surgery was in capable hands, but that didn't stop the fear from creeping in.Tree brought her a cup of coffee, placing it gently on the table beside her. "How are you holding up?"
Taylor sighed, taking a sip of the coffee. "Just barely. I hate this waiting game."
Tree nodded, understanding her friend's struggle. "Why don't you take a break? Clear your head a bit?"
Before Taylor could respond, Donna came to sit beside her, interrupting her thoughts. "Why are you doing your work here instead of in your office?"
Taylor looked up, a bit surprised by the question. "I told Travis I'd be right outside the whole time. I want to keep my word."
Donna nodded, a soft smile playing on her lips. "You care about him, don't you?"
Taylor hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah, I do. He's been through a lot, and I just... I want to see him come out of this okay."
Before Donna could respond, Sam emerged from the OR. All three of them held their breath, waiting for the news.
"The surgery went well," Sam announced, and they all exhaled in relief. "We're moving him back to his room now. We'll keep him under observation for the next 24 hours just as a precaution."
Jason and Donna nodded in acknowledgment, gratitude evident on their faces. Taylor felt the tension in her shoulders ease slightly, though she knew the road ahead was still long.
Later, after taking a moment to freshen up in her office, Taylor made her way to Travis's room. She hoped he'd be awake so she could check on him before heading home, but she didn't want to disturb him if he was still under the influence of the anesthetics.
As she approached his room, she could hear voices—Jason and Travis talking quietly. She paused for a moment, then stepped inside.
Travis was awake, his eyes tired but alert. Taylor smiled in relief, walking over to his bedside to check his vitals and the surgical site on his leg.
"Hey," she greeted softly. "How are you feeling?"
Travis gave a half-smile. "Like I just came out of surgery."
Taylor chuckled, patting his hand gently. "Well, everything looks good so far. I'm heading home for the day, but I'll be back first thing tomorrow. Try to get some rest, okay?"
"Okay, bye, Doc," Travis replied, his voice light but grateful.
Taylor turns to Donna and Jason and then looks towards Travis with a playful edge. "Visiting hours are almost over, so don't give my staff too much trouble, okay?"
Travis feigned shock, placing a hand dramatically over his heart. "Me? Trouble? I'm a harmless little butterfly."
Everyone laughed, the tension easing as Taylor said her goodbyes and left the hospital, her thoughts still lingering on Travis.

Back at home, Taylor tried to unwind, but the events of the day weighed heavily on her. As she changed into her nightclothes, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her eyes trailed over the scar on her abdomen—a constant reminder of what had happened almost two years ago.
She traced the scar with her fingers, the memories threatening to pull her under. But she shook her head, pushing the thoughts away. She had to stay strong, for Travis's sake. After a quick dinner, she crawled into bed, exhaustion finally overtaking her as she drifted off to sleep.
