The next day, Taylor was back at the hospital, buried under a mountain of paperwork. It was barely noon, and she had already powered through several meetings. The usual chaos, she thought, tapping her pen against the edge of a patient file.

"I only took a few days off," she mumbled to herself, scanning another document, her frustration growing. "Why do I have a mountain of work waiting for me?"

Tree sauntered in, dropping another pile onto her already-crowded desk with a knowing smirk. Taylor shot her a death glare.

"I hate you," she muttered, eyeing the new stack like it might crush her any second.

Tree winked playfully. "Love you too, boss."

Shaking her head with an exasperated sigh, Taylor returned to her work, but her mind was already drifting elsewhere—specifically back to a certain someone who had unexpectedly become a steady presence in her life. Someone whose mere mention made her feel... lighter.

Minutes turned into an hour as she scribbled notes, completely engrossed in her files. Then, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in," she said automatically, still not looking up.

The door clicked open, followed by the sound of footsteps approaching. Then, a familiar voice—one that instantly pulled her from her focus.

"Hey."

Taylor's head shot up, her heart skipping a beat as she met Travis's gaze. "Oh—Travis." She blinked, trying to clear the fog of concentration. "Sorry, I didn't notice you come in. Is it time for your session already?" She glanced quickly at the clock.

Travis chuckled, leaning casually against the doorframe. "Nope. Still an hour left. Thought I'd swing by and see if I could persuade you to take a break for lunch."

In one smooth motion, he raised a McDonald's takeout bag, the playful grin on his face unmistakable.

Taylor blinked, momentarily caught off guard. "Oh. Well..." she gestured to the towering stacks of paperwork surrounding her. "I'm kind of drowning here."

"Welcome to my life," she sighed, rubbing her temple.

Travis moved toward her desk, setting the takeout bag on the one free corner of the cluttered surface. "Well, even doctors need food, and I happen to know you can't say no to a cheeseburger."

A small smile crept onto Taylor's lips despite herself. "You really know how to tempt me," she said, shaking her head lightly. "Alright, I'll take you up on that lunch. But I need a few more minutes to finish this file."

Travis leaned back in his chair, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Take your time. This is your kingdom, after all—your table, your office, your hospital. Hell, your name's on the building."

Taylor snorted, rolling her eyes. "Why are we friends again?"

Travis gasped dramatically, placing a hand over his heart. "Friends?! How dare you! We're best friends, Tay. Don't you forget it."

Taylor shot him a mock glare, but the amusement was evident in her eyes. "Potato, potahto."

Travis grinned, leaning forward. "Exactly."

There was something easy about being around Travis now—something that felt natural, like they had known each other for years instead of months. Taylor found herself relaxing more than she had all day, even with the mountain of work looming over her. The playful banter felt like a welcome reprieve from the chaos of her life.
