(Taylor's Perspective)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taylor's newfound realization wasn't making things easier. If anything, it made everything harder. She couldn't focus, couldn't pull her mind away from Travis. It was like he had quietly taken up residence in her thoughts, and now, he refused to leave. It wasn't just when she entered the hospital—her mind drifted back to him in meetings, while she made coffee, even during the silent moments in her office.
This is ridiculous, she thought to herself as she absentmindedly walked into the hospital, her thoughts tangled. She didn't even notice Tree calling her name.
"Taylor?" Tree touched her arm lightly, snapping her back to reality. "You okay?"
Taylor blinked, her thoughts crashing back to the present. "Huh? What? Sorry, what were you saying?"
Tree gave her a knowing look, but didn't press. "Nothing. Just checking in."
Taylor shook her head as if to clear it, forcing herself to focus as Tree started talking about work. She couldn't let this... whatever it was with Travis... distract her. She had responsibilities.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But even after that moment, Taylor struggled to stay present. Her mind kept wandering back to Travis. During a meeting, while someone presented updates, Taylor found herself lost again, the speaker's words blurring into background noise. Suddenly, she heard her name.
"Dr. Swift, what do you think?"
Taylor blinked, snapping back. She quickly scanned the room. "Sorry, could you repeat the question?" she asked, trying to gather herself. She caught Tree giving her a knowing look across the table, but Taylor ignored it and answered the question to the best of her ability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in the hospital kitchen, Taylor stood by the counter, staring at the coffee machine, willing her brain to focus, muttering to herself, Get your shit together, Taylor. This is ridiculous. You're acting like a teenager with a crush. Focus, or you'll be out on the street selling bread, not running a hospital.. She was pouring herself a cup not realizing the coffee was overflowing, a puddle spreading across the counter.
"Taylor!" Tree's voice cut through the haze. "The coffee is spilling!"
Taylor snapped out of it and saw the mess. "Shit," she muttered, , quickly turning off the machine and grabbing tissues to clean the mess.
"Ugh, this day just keeps getting better and better," Taylor muttered under her breath.
As she mopped up the spill, she felt Tree's eyes on her. She turned to find her standing there, arms crossed, an eyebrow raised.
"What?" Taylor asked, feigning ignorance.
Tree gave her a look. "You're asking me what? Tay, you've been completely out of it since this morning. What's going on? You're distracted, you're spilling coffee, you spaced out in the meeting—seriously, what's happening?"
Taylor sighed, feeling the weight of her emotions pressing down on her. "It's nothing. I'm just thinking too much today. It's fine." She picked up her coffee, leaving before Tree could pry further.

(Travis's Perspective)
On the other side of town, Travis wasn't faring much better. He had been distracted for days, and it wasn't hard for Jason to notice. They were sitting at the kitchen island having breakfast when Jason brought it up, unable to keep quiet anymore.
"So, Coach is telling the media today about your return, right?" Jason asked, keeping his tone casual.
"Yeah, it'll be out by the afternoon," Travis replied, offering a small, sad smile as he absentmindedly pushed his eggs around his plate. The thought of returning to the field should have filled him with excitement, but all he could think about was how much he'd miss seeing Taylor every day once physio ended.
Jason took a bite of his toast. "Just another month and a half of physio and you'll be back at training camp. You must be excited, huh?"
Travis smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Yeah... I guess."
Travis hummed, forcing a nod, but the sad smile returned, and this time, Jason couldn't let it go.
"Okay, I can't do this anymore," Jason said, throwing his fork down. "What's going on in that big head of yours?"
Travis looked up, confused. "What do you mean?"
Jason shook his head. "Trav, I know you better than anyone. You've been out of it for days. You can't fool me. So, don't even think about lying."
Travis sighed, pushing his plate away. "It's just... I can't stop thinking about Taylor."
Jason smirked. "Well, that's love for you, bro."
Travis frowned, the weight of his feelings pressing down. "Yeah, but once physio's over... I won't see her every day. I won't get to talk to her, or... I don't know. I'll lose that connection."
Jason leaned forward, his eyes serious. "If you're so worried about it, why don't you confess your feelings? Ask her out. Make it happen."
Travis shook his head. "It's not that simple, Jase. You don't get it."
Jason folded his arms. "What's not to get? You like her, she likes you—boom, problem solved."
Travis sighed, his gaze dropping to the table. "She's been through a lot in her last relationship. I'm scared that if I confess how I feel, and she doesn't feel the same way, I'll lose her as a friend, too."
Jason's expression softened. "What do you mean, 'been through a lot'?"
Travis's eyes darkened, the memory of Taylor's pain washing over him. "Her boyfriend... took his own life while she was pregnant."
Jason's eyes widened in shock. "Holy shit... I had no idea."
Travis nodded, his voice low. "Yeah. She was in a car accident after... and lost the baby too. She's been through hell, man."
Jason sat back, letting that sink in. "She's such a kind person. I never would've guessed she's been through something like that."
Travis nodded. "Exactly. I don't want to do anything that could hurt her again."
Jason looked at his brother, his voice filled with quiet urgency. "You better treat her right, Trav. If you go for this... you better be all in."
Travis rolled his eyes, standing up to put his dishes in the sink, but the truth of Jason's words lingered. He knew he couldn't mess this up.
