Taylor sat through another mind-numbing online meeting, the kind that seemed designed to sap the life out of her. It was mandatory, which was the only reason she hadn't politely bowed out. She sipped water periodically, doing her best not to yawn in full view of the camera.

Just as she stifled another yawn, her phone screen lit up. It was on silent, placed just out of the camera's view, but close enough for her to glance at. She discreetly picked it up,  double-checking that her camera still only showed her attentively listening face and her phone wouldn't accidentally be visible.

It was a text from Travis, and as she read it, a soft smile crept onto her lips. Quickly catching herself, she smoothed her expression, reminding herself that her video was still on.

Travis: Hey

Taylor: Hey 😊

Travis: Whatcha doing?

Taylor: Stuck in a meeting. 😒

Travis: Why are you texting me then? Go pay attention!

She rolled her eyes, trying to hide her amusement.

Taylor: Trav, it's a boring, unimportant meeting. Trust me, I wouldn't be texting you if it were actually engaging. I'm literally struggling not to fall asleep every other second.

Travis: Oh no, my poor lady, suffering in silence. 😔

Taylor: Travis...

Travis: Taylor...

Taylor: You're impossible.

Travis: But you love me.

Taylor: Unfortunately.

Travis: Dinner at my place tonight? I'll rescue you from all this monotony.

Her smile widened, and she glanced around to ensure no one had noticed her moment of distraction.

Taylor: I'm off a little late tonight, but I can come by straight from the hospital.

Travis: Perfect.

Taylor: So, will you be cooking, or should I have the fire department on standby?

Travis:🙄 Haha, very funny. I shouldn't have told you that story.

Taylor: Oh, you bet I'm not letting you live down the story Mr. I Threw a Chair at My Teacher. 😆

Travis: You're impossible too, you know that?

It took all her self-control to keep a straight face and not burst out laughing on camera.

Taylor: But you love me, too.

Travis: Unfortunately. 😏

Travis: And no, I won't be cooking. I'll order something. Any preference?

Taylor: Hmm... how about Chinese?

Travis: Chinese it is. See you tonight.

The meeting droned on, but the promise of dinner with Travis gave her the energy to power through. Before leaving the hospital that evening, she grabbed a bottle of red wine from her small stash, imagining the evening ahead and feeling a quiet thrill.

Later, Taylor pulled up to Travis's place, feeling a flicker of excitement. She made her way to the door and rang the bell, and within seconds, he opened it, flashing that familiar, heartwarming smile.
