Taylor and Travis reached Jason and Kylie's house mid-afternoon.
Taylor pulled into the driveway, turning off the car as Travis stretched his arms out with a yawn. "Long drive, huh?" he said, twisting slightly to work out the stiffness in his back.
Taylor smirked. "You slept through half of it, so I'm not sure you're allowed to complain."
Travis grinned, unbuckling his seatbelt. "Fair enough."
They got out of the car and began unloading their bags. As they reached the front door, it swung open to reveal Jason holding little Wyatt in his arms.
"About time!" Jason called out, a big grin splitting his face. Wyatt's eyes immediately lit up at the sight of Travis.
"Uncle Travvy!" she squealed, holding her tiny arms out toward him.
Travis's face softened as he dropped the bags by the door and stepped forward, taking Wyatt into his arms and covering her face with playful kisses. "Hey, my pretty girl! I missed you."
Wyatt giggled, patting Travis's beard. "Missed you too!"
Taylor stood back, smiling at the heartwarming scene. Jason, however, feigned annoyance, rolling his eyes dramatically. "Great, my daughter's loyalty is gone. She's all yours now."
Taylor laughed, stepping forward to hug Jason. "Hey, how's everything going?"
Jason returned the hug and shrugged. "It's chaos, as usual. But hey, things should run smoother now that you two are here."
Travis shifted Wyatt in his arms and smiled at Taylor. "Wy," he said, addressing the little girl, "do you know who this pretty lady is?"
Wyatt tilted her head, squinting at Taylor as if trying to figure it out. Then she shook her head.
Travis grinned. "This is Taylor. Uncle Travvy's girlfriend."
Wyatt's face scrunched up in confusion. "What's a girlfriend?"
Jason crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow at Travis, who held up a hand to silently tell his brother to hold off on any comments.
"It means..." Travis paused, searching for the simplest explanation. "It means that we love each other."
Wyatt seemed to consider this, her little face deep in thought. Then her expression brightened as if a light bulb had gone off. "Oh! Like Mommy and Daddy!"
"Exactly like that," Travis said, nodding with a grin.
Wyatt's smile grew even wider. "So... Taylor is my auntie?"
Taylor's eyes flicked to Travis, who looked at Jason for approval. Jason's expression softened, and he gave a small nod. Taylor felt her heart swell as Travis looked back at her with a grin and then at Wyatt. "Yeah, kiddo. She's your auntie."
Taylor crouched slightly, her face level with Wyatt's. "Hey there, Miss Wyatt."
Wyatt shyly waved at her.
Taylor opened her arms, silently asking for a hug. Wyatt hesitated for only a second before leaning forward, allowing Taylor to scoop her up.
"Has anyone ever told you how cute you are?" Taylor teased, brushing her nose lightly against Wyatt's before kissing her forehead.
Wyatt giggled, wrapping her tiny arms around Taylor's neck.
Jason clapped his hands. "Alright, lovebirds. Let's take this inside before my daughter declares war over who she loves more."
Taylor nodded and stepped inside, following Travis while Jason closed the door behind them.
The living room felt warm and inviting, the familiar energy of a bustling family home. Donna was seated in her favorite armchair by the window, knitting a tiny sweater in what looked like a pale green color. Kylie was curled up on the couch, looking slightly uncomfortable, one hand resting on her belly as she tried to shift into a better position.
