As the late afternoon light began to fade, casting long shadows over the river, Taylor and Travis reluctantly pulled apart from each other's embrace. They had been sitting on the bench for hours, wrapped in each other's warmth and conversation, but now reality beckoned them back.

Taylor finally glanced at her phone, which had been buzzing on the bench since the last hour. She saw a series of missed calls and messages from her friends, the screen lighting up with their concern.

Her group chat, named No Daddies, Just Issues, was in full swing:

Tree: Tay, where are you??
Blake: What do you mean, where is she?
Tree: She left the hospital without telling me, then Travis came looking for her, and now he's missing too!
Blake: Ohhhh, something's up.
Blake: Taylor Alison Swift, you better tell us where you are right now!
Selena: Guys, what's going on? Why is everyone disappearing?
Tree: I still can't reach her!
Selena: Tay!!!! Reply for fuck's sake! You're worrying us.

Taylor rolled her eyes but couldn't help the chuckle that escaped. She quickly typed out a reply:

Taylor: Chill, people. My phone was on silent.
Tree: CHILL??? You've been MIA for hours!
Taylor: I'm fine, guys. I'll be home soon.
Selena: Where were you??
Blake: Yeah, spill!

Taylor looked up from her phone and smirked at Travis, who was still holding her close, his hands resting protectively on her waist.

"What's so funny?" Travis asked, his deep voice laced with curiosity, though the small grin on his face told her he already knew the answer.

"Well," Taylor began, turning her phone screen toward him, "Apparently, in your quest to find me, you asked Tree where I was, and now all my friends think I've gone missing. They're bombarding me with questions."

Travis's grin widened. "I was worried. You just vanished, Tay. I couldn't find you anywhere."

Taylor's heart swelled at his words. She placed her hand gently on his cheek. "But you did find me," she said softly, her voice full of affection.

"I did," he murmured, gazing at her like she was the only thing that mattered in the world.

She started to shift out of his hold, knowing it was getting late and they needed to head back. "We should go. It's getting dark," she said, though part of her wanted to stay in his arms forever.

But Travis didn't loosen his grip. Instead, he pulled her closer, burying his face in the crook of her neck. His voice came out as a soft plea. "Just five more minutes," he mumbled against her skin.

Taylor let out a gentle laugh, her fingers threading through his hair, her touch soft and comforting. "Okay," she agreed, her voice barely above a whisper. "Five more minutes, and then we really have to leave."

"Mmm," he hummed contentedly, holding her even tighter.

After a beat, he spoke again, his voice quieter, more vulnerable. "Tay?"

"Yeah?" she responded softly.

"One month feels like forever."

Taylor smiled at the sentiment, though her heart ached just the same. "I know," she said, brushing her fingers along the back of his neck. "But we need to respect the professional boundaries, you know that. I know it'll be difficult, but we'll get through it."

"Together?" Travis asked, his voice carrying a hint of hope.

"Together," Taylor affirmed, her heart swelling with love for him.

Eventually, they let go of each other, standing up and facing one another. They shared a soft, lingering smile, each lost in the depth of the other's gaze.

"If you keep looking at me like that," Taylor teased, "I won't be able to leave."

Travis raised an eyebrow, his smile widening mischievously. "Looking at you like what?"

"With love," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I can't help it," Travis replied, his voice low and tender. "You deserve all the love in the world, Tay."

She bit her lip, feeling her heart flutter in her chest. "This is going to be one hell of a month," she muttered.

"No doubt about it," Travis chuckled, the sound warm and rich.

There was a pause, their eyes locked on each other, filled with unspoken promises. Then, Travis blushed slightly, glancing down for a moment before looking back at her. "Can I... can I kiss you one more time? You know, to help me get through this month?"

Taylor smiled, her cheeks flushing slightly, and she nodded. "Yes, you can."

With that, Travis stepped forward, his hand resting on her waist while the other gently cupped her cheek, fingers sliding behind her neck to support her. He leaned down, his lips brushing softly against hers. Taylor's hands found their way around his neck, her fingers threading through his hair as they kissed—slow, deep, and full of emotion.

It wasn't just a kiss. It was a moment they wanted to remember, to hold onto for the coming month when they would have to pretend nothing had changed between them. It was a promise.

When they finally pulled apart, breathless but smiling, they began walking back toward the hospital, their hands intertwined like they belonged there, fitting perfectly together. The walk was short, but every step felt significant—like they were moving toward something bigger, something real.

As they reached the hospital entrance, they paused, facing each other once more. The reality of their situation settled in, but it didn't diminish the warmth between them.

"Bye, Trav," Taylor said softly, her heart already missing him though they'd only be apart for a few hours.

"I'll see you tomorrow, doc," Travis replied with a playful wink before heading to find his car.

Taylor watched him go, her chest tightening with affection. She turned back toward the hospital, heading inside to gather her things before heading home, but the smile on her face lingered long after he was out of sight.
