Taylor sat in her office, papers and reports sprawled across her desk. The steady hum of hospital life buzzed in the background, but her mind wasn't fully present. She had been trying to concentrate for the past hour, but every few minutes, her thoughts wandered back to Travis. His smile, the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed, the warmth in his voice—he was always lingering at the edges of her focus.
Finally, unable to resist any longer, she picked up her phone and called him.
He answered almost immediately. "Hey, beautiful."
A smile broke out on her face at the sound of his voice. "Hey, handsome."
"Is everything okay?" he asked, a note of concern in his tone.
"Yeah," she replied, a little shyly. "I just... I miss you."
Travis let out a soft chuckle, his voice warm and familiar. "I miss you too, Tay. It's only been a day since I last saw you, but it feels like a long time"
She sighed, leaning back in her chair, allowing herself a moment to just bask in the warmth of his words. "How are you feeling about meeting the guys today?"
There was a pause on the other end, and she could almost feel the tension through the phone. "Honestly? I'm nervous," he admitted. "It's been a while, and I just... I don't know. I worry if they'll still see me the same way."
Taylor's heart softened. She knew how much Travis valued his friendships and how much being a part of the team meant to him. "Travis, they love you. From everything you've told me, they've always had your back, and they're not going to stop now. They're your brothers, and they'll be proud to see how far you've come."
There was a slight pause, and then he said, his voice filled with gratitude, "What did I ever do to have you in my life?"
She chuckled softly, feeling a wave of warmth spread through her. "I could ask myself the same question."
They lingered in the warmth of each other's words for a while, exchanging little updates and playful banter until Travis had to go.
"Alright, I gotta get going," he said reluctantly.
"Good luck," Taylor said softly. "You've got this."
"Thanks, Tay. Talk later?"
"Of course. Bye, Trav."

Later that afternoon, as Taylor was going through a particularly tedious report, there was a knock on her door.
"Dr. Swift?" A staff member entered, holding a stunning bouquet of lilacs.
Taylor blinked in surprise, momentarily taken aback. "For me?"
The staff member nodded, placing the flowers on her desk before leaving with a polite nod. Once he was gone, Taylor leaned forward, admiring the vibrant blooms. Her eyes caught the small note tucked between the flowers. She pulled it out, her heart already fluttering at the sight of Travis's handwriting.
Thank you for the encouraging words.
Yours,
Travis.A soft laugh escaped her as she shook her head in amusement. This man. First lilies, then Dahlias and now lilacs. She picked up her phone to text him.
Taylor: What's your obsession with flowers, Kelce?
Travis: They look good with you.
Her heart flipped at his effortless charm. How did he manage to say things like that so naturally, as if it was the most obvious truth in the world?
Taylor: Smooth talker.
Travis: Only for you.
She shook her head, biting her lip to keep herself from grinning like an idiot, before placing her phone down and returning to her work, her spirits lifted and her office smelling faintly of lilacs.

(12th July)
It was a busy week for them, they exchanged texts all the time but didn't get to meet, with Taylor finally catching up on all the things going on at the hospital and Travis having to reconnect with all his teammates.
It was Friday evening, Taylor returned home, had a quick dinner, and then FaceTimed Travis. The screen lit up with his face, and just seeing him made her day feel complete.
When he answered, his face lit up on the screen. "Hey, you."
"Hey," Taylor replied, her smile mirroring his.
"You free tomorrow?" she asked, leaning back against the cushions.
"Yeah," Travis said, his eyebrows raising slightly. "What do you have in mind?"
Taylor grinned. "Time for the second date, which I will be planning."
"Ooh, I like the sound of that," Travis teased. "Alright, I'll be ready for it."
As they continued to chat, Taylor's day began catching up with her. She yawned mid-conversation, covering her mouth quickly. "I'm sorry," she mumbled. "It's been a long day."
Travis chuckled softly. "It's cool, Tay. You've got an important job. Get some rest."
Her smile softened, her eyelids growing heavier. "I will, thank you," she whispered.
They spent the next few minutes talking about their day. Travis was in the middle of recounting a funny story from his meetup with the guys when she started to nod off, her eyes growing heavy. Before long, she'd fallen asleep, her phone still propped up against her pillow.
Travis smiled at the sight of her sleeping face, peaceful and relaxed. "Goodnight my love," he whispered, not wanting to hang up. He kept the FaceTime call running, watching her sleep for a few moments before eventually drifting off himself.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through Taylor's window, waking her gently. She rubbed her eyes, reaching instinctively for the glass of water she always kept by her nightstand. That's when she noticed her phone still propped up, and Travis still on the other end, asleep.
A smile tugged at her lips as she watched him, taking in his relaxed face, his steady breathing. She couldn't resist taking a few quiet moments to admire him, feeling a swell of affection in her chest.
After a few minutes, Travis began to stir, blinking as he woke up. He focused on the screen, his face breaking into a sleepy smile when he saw her. "Morning, babe," she greeted, the nickname slipping out naturally.
"Morning to you too," he replied, his voice still thick with sleep.
She chuckled softly, savoring the warmth of this simple moment. "Rise and shine, Kelce. We've got a date today."
He grinned, stretching slightly. "Ooh, any heads-up on what we're doing?"
"Wear something comfortable," she instructed with a mysterious smile.
"Any hints at all?" he asked, leaning forward slightly.
"Nope," she said, smirking. "I'll pick you up around 1."
"I'll be ready, my lady," Travis said with a playful bow.
With that, they ended the call, both already counting down the hours until they'd be together again.
