[25th January 2019 (DAY OF SURGERY)]

Taylor had been on edge all day. Her morning was a whirlwind of back-to-back meetings, each one dragging on longer than she'd hoped. She'd scheduled everything so she could meet with Travis before his surgery, but the clock seemed to be working against her. Every minute that ticked by felt like an eternity, and she could feel the anxiety gnawing at her.

Frustrated, Taylor muttered under her breath as she flipped through another stack of files, "Why the fuck did I choose to own a hospital and be both CEO and CMO?"

Tree, her long-time friend and confidante, gave her a knowing look. "Because you couldn't find another you who'd care about this place as much as you do."

Taylor let out a frustrated groan, slamming the files down on the table. "I just want to be done with this already."

Sensing her friend's growing impatience, Tree gently took the files from her hands. "I'll get someone to handle these. You need to focus on what really matters today."

Taylor managed a weak smile, grateful for Tree's support. As she finished up her last meeting, she was acutely aware of the time. She glanced at her watch for the tenth time in the last five minutes. "Okay, let's wrap this up, shall we? Does anyone have any questions or concerns?"

Everyone in the room shook their heads, sensing her urgency. "Alright," Taylor concluded, "we'll have our next follow-up in two weeks."

She exited the room, moving with purpose as she rushed to Travis's room, her heart pounding with a mix of anxiety and anticipation.

Taking a deep breath, Taylor composed herself before entering. She found Travis surrounded by his brother Jason, his mother Donna, and Dr. Sam McWilliams, who would be performing the surgery.

"Morning, everyone," Taylor greeted, her tone steady but tinged with underlying concern. "So, how's everything looking, Dr. McWilliams?"

Sam nodded, offering a reassuring smile. "Morning, Chief. Everything's looking good. We're set to go in about half an hour."

After Sam left the room, Taylor moved to stand beside Travis, adopting a playful demeanor to ease the tension. "How's my patient feeling?"

Travis chuckled, though there was a nervous edge to it. "Like I just want to be done with this already, Doc."

Taylor returned his smile, understanding exactly how he felt. She then noticed Donna watching her intently, a strange emotion flickering in her eyes. Taylor frowned slightly. "Donna, are you okay?"

Donna, caught off guard, quickly smiled and waved off Taylor's concern. "Sorry, what? Oh, yes, dear, I'm fine. Just a bit on edge, I suppose."

Taylor nodded, offering a reassuring smile. "Understandable. We're all a bit on edge today."

Turning back to Travis, she adopted a lighter tone again. "Alright, my friend, your chariot awaits. Let's get you to the OR."

Travis nodded, a touch of nervousness in his eyes as Jason and Taylor helped him into a wheelchair. Donna and Jason exchanged reassuring words with him as they wheeled him down the hall, Taylor following close behind, her heart heavy with concern.

Once they reached the operating room, Taylor helped Travis settle onto the bed, adjusting his gown and ensuring he was comfortable. She placed a hand on his shoulder, her voice soft but firm. "I'll be right outside the whole time, okay? Everything's going to go smoothly, and soon enough, you'll be as good as new."

As she turned to leave, Travis suddenly grabbed her hand, his grip surprisingly strong. She looked back at him, confused. "Travis?"

He held her gaze, his voice filled with sincerity. "Thank you."

Taylor's heart softened, and she nodded, giving his hand a gentle squeeze before stepping out of the room. She offered him one last reassuring smile as the surgical team moved in.
