(22 July)
It was the first day of training camp, and Taylor woke up early, her thoughts already on Travis. As she got ready for the day, she sent him a quick text:
Taylor: All the best for the first day!
Within a few minutes, his reply popped up.
Travis: Thanks, gotta go for breakfast with everyone now.
Taylor: Okay, ttyl.
As she sat in her office later that morning, Taylor couldn't resist opening the live broadcast of the camp on her phone. Her work was waiting, but she needed to catch a glimpse of him.
The screen came to life, and there he was—Travis jogging onto the field, dressed in his Chiefs shirt and shorts, his hair tousled perfectly as the breeze swept through it. He looked every bit the confident athlete she knew he was, and yet, she could sense the weight of his nerves just beneath the surface.
A soft smile crept onto her face as she watched him laugh with his teammates, his energy lighting up the screen. After a while, she reluctantly put her phone down and dove back into her workload.

That evening, as agreed, she waited on her couch for his call. Her phone finally rang at 7 p.m. sharp, and she picked it up on the first ring.
The screen lit up, revealing Travis lounging on a dorm bed, looking both exhausted and content.
"Hey, handsome," Taylor greeted, her voice warm.
"Hey," Travis replied, his smile soft but genuine.
"So," Taylor leaned back into the cushions, "how was the first day?"
Travis sighed, but it was the kind of sigh that came with relief. "It was good. Actually... it felt really good."
Taylor raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
"Yeah," he said, pausing as if searching for the right words. "It's like that feeling of coming home. Like, I'm where I'm supposed to be. I haven't felt this way in a while—kind of like when I first joined the NFL. I was a little lost for a bit, but today... today felt right."
Taylor's heart swelled with pride. "See? I told you. You've got this, Trav."
He chuckled, his grin turning mischievous. "You did. Should've just listened to you sooner, huh?"
They talked for a while longer, sharing little details about their day, before the sound of a door flinging open interrupted their conversation.
"Hey, man, who you talking to?" came a loud voice in the background.
Travis groaned, his teammates piling into the dorm noisily. "I'll talk to you tomorrow," he said hurriedly, grinning apologetically before ending the call.
Taylor chuckled to herself, imagining the chaos in his dorm. She put her phone down, feeling a little more connected despite the distance, and spent the rest of her evening catching up on her favorite show before heading to bed.

The girls had planned a long-overdue sleepover at Selena's house, and Taylor was looking forward to it. With the hospital keeping her busy and Travis away at camp, she needed a night of laughter and wine with her best friends.
