Third person pov:
Vivian and Siobhan had been looking forward to this day for months. Siobhan, who was nearly nine months pregnant with twin girls, had already been feeling the weight of the last few weeks. Their five-year-old son, Jamie, had been especially excited, always asking when his little sisters would arrive.
That morning, Vivian decided to take Jamie on a walk through the park to give Siobhan some peace. Vivian closed the front door gently behind her, making sure not to wake Siobhan, who was resting on the couch. It had been a long few weeks, and now, at nine months pregnant with twin girls, Siobhan needed all the quiet she could get. Her body was exhausted, but her mind had been racing with thoughts about the impending birth. Vivian figured some peace and solitude might help.
"Come on, Jamie," Vivian called to their five-year-old son, who was bouncing excitedly by the door, sneakers already laced up. "Let's go for a walk. Give Mama some space to relax."
Jamie grabbed his small dinosaur backpack and swung it over his shoulder. "Are we going to the park?"
Vivian nodded, smiling. "Just for a bit. Then we'll come back and check on Mama, okay?"
The day was bright, with a gentle autumn breeze rustling through the trees. They walked through their quiet neighborhood, Jamie holding tightly to Vivian's hand. He was full of energy, talking non-stop about the names they had chosen for the twins, what games he was going to teach them, and how he would protect them when they got older. Vivian listened with a smile, her mind wandering to how soon their family would grow from three to five.
Back at the house, Siobhan stirred, discomfort flooding her lower back. She shifted on the couch, trying to find a comfortable position, but nothing seemed to help. The discomfort quickly turned to a sharp pain that caused her to gasp.
No, not now, she thought. Not while Vivian and Jamie were out.
She closed her eyes, hoping it was just another false alarm. She'd had plenty of those in the past couple of weeks. But when another wave of pain hit her, sharper and more intense this time, she knew. The twins were coming.
Grimacing, Siobhan reached for her phone and dialed Vivian's number. She hoped she could reach her fiancée before things got too intense.
"Hello?" Vivian's voice was calm and steady, a contrast to the growing panic that Siobhan was feeling.
"Vivian... it's happening. I think I'm in labor."
There was a brief moment of silence on the other end before Vivian sprang into action. "Alright, alright, stay calm. We're coming back right now."
Vivian hung up and turned to Jamie, her face pale but calm. "We need to get back home, buddy. Your sisters are on their way."
Jamie's eyes widened with excitement. "Right now?"
Vivian nodded, picking up the pace. She wanted to run, but Jamie's small legs couldn't keep up if she did, so she settled for a brisk walk, keeping the situation light for his sake.
Back at the house, Siobhan was trying to breathe through the contractions. They were getting closer together, and she could feel the pressure building. She wasn't sure how much longer she could wait.
The door flew open, and Vivian rushed in, Jamie, in tow. "Siobhan!" Vivian called out, her eyes scanning the room before landing on her.
"I'm here," Siobhan groaned, gripping the arm of the couch. Her face was flushed with the intensity of the contractions. "I don't think we have much time."
Vivian knelt beside her, gently placing a hand on Siobhan’s belly, feeling the babies shift beneath her skin. "We need to get you to the hospital."
"I don’t think... I don’t think I can make it," Siobhan panted. "They’re coming now."
Vivian’s heart raced, but she kept her voice steady. "Okay. We’re going to do this together. You’re strong, Siobhan. You’ve got this."
She dialed emergency services, giving them their location and explaining the situation. As they waited for the ambulance, Vivian stayed by Siobhan’s side, coaching her through each contraction. Jamie sat nearby, watching with wide eyes, too young to fully understand but sensing the gravity of the moment.
After what felt like an eternity but was only minutes, they heard the sirens approaching. Siobhan was drenched in sweat, gripping Vivian’s hand so tightly it felt like she might break it.
The paramedics arrived just in time, swiftly moving siobabn onto a stretcher and preparing to transport her. Vivian stayed by her side the entire time, her voice soft and soothing, promising her that everything would be alright.
The ride to the hospital was a blur, but within hours, Siobhan gave birth to two healthy baby girls. Exhausted but radiant, she lay in the hospital bef with vivian at her side, holding one twin while Vivian held the other. Jamie perched on a chair between them and stared at his baby sisters in awe.
"They're here," Siobhan whispered, her voice filled with joy and exhaustion.
Vivian leaned over and kissed Siobhan on the forehead. "You did it."
Siobhan smiled, her eyes filled with love as she gazed at their newborn daughters. "We did it."
