Third person pov:
Siobhan had always imagined what her wedding day might look like, but as she stood in front of the wide mirrors at the bridal boutique, the reality of it all hit her like a rush of excitement. She was getting married to the love of her life, Vivian, and today was the day she’d find the perfect dress. Siobhan had never been the type to dream of weddings, but once she met Vivian, everything changed. Their love had grown into something profound, and now they were planning the rest of their lives together.
Marjorie, Siobhan’s oldest friend, was already bouncing with excitement as they stepped into the boutique. Her hair was tied back, and she had a clipboard in hand. “Okay,” Marjorie said with mock seriousness, “I’m here to make sure we find the dress, and I will not rest until you look like a vision.”
Siobhan laughed, shaking her head. “Marj, you’re taking this way too seriously.”
“Listen,” Marjorie replied, “we’ve been waiting for this day for ages, and I won’t let you slack off on your bridal duties.”
Autumn, Siobhan’s other best friend, was more relaxed about the whole thing. Dressed in a soft sweater and jeans, she leaned back on the plush sofa with a contented smile. “No pressure, Siobhan. Just breathe, and remember, whatever you choose, you’ll look amazing.” Autumn had always been the calm in their friend group, the one who kept everyone grounded.
Siobhan appreciated having them both there, each balancing out the energy in the room. She had thought she’d be nervous or overwhelmed, but surrounded by her closest friends, it felt right. Still, she couldn’t help the knot of anticipation tightening in her stomach.
The boutique attendant, a woman with a warm smile and an eye for detail, came over holding a selection of dresses. “Are we ready to start?” she asked.
Siobhan nodded, taking a deep breath. “Let’s do this.”
She tried on the first dress, a traditional white gown with lace sleeves. It was beautiful, no doubt, but as she stared at her reflection, something didn’t feel right. She emerged from the dressing room, feeling awkward. Plus she wanted something black. Black is her colour and she wouldn't be caught dead wearing a white dress on her wedding day.
Marjorie’s eyes widened, but after a moment, she shook her head. “It’s nice… but I don’t think that’s you, Siobhan.”
Autumn gave her a soft smile. “Yeah, it’s pretty, but I think there’s something better.”
Siobhan couldn’t agree more. After a few more dresses, she began to feel a little discouraged. Some were too frilly, others too plain, some too white. None of them felt like her.
Finally, the attendant brought out one last dress, a black one. “I think this might be more your style,” she said, hanging it on the rack. The dress was a tight black one with laced sleaves and it hugged her curves perfectly. It wasn’t at all traditional, and it had a modern touch that suited Siobhan’s personality perfectly.
As soon as she slipped into the dress and looked at herself in the mirror, she knew. The black fabric draped beautifully, and the dress felt like a second skin. She smiled—this was it.
Siobhan stepped out of the dressing room, and when her friends saw her, they gasped.
“Oh, Siobhan,” Autumn whispered, tears forming in her eyes.
Marjorie nodded, speechless for once. “That’s the one.”
Siobhan turned back to the mirror and saw it too. She could picture herself walking down the aisle to Vivian, her heart racing with joy and love. This was the dress she wanted to marry the woman of her dreams in.
Later that evening, after they’d celebrated with champagne and laughter, Siobhan sat with Marjorie and Autumn, grateful for their support. "You two are the best," she said, raising her glass. "Thank you for today."
Marjorie grinned, her eyes twinkling. "Only the best for our girl. You deserve all the happiness in the world."
Autumn nodded. "And I can’t wait to see you two get married."
As they toasted to love, Siobhan’s heart was full. In just a few months, she’d be walking down the aisle toward Vivian, and she knew, with her friends by her side and her love waiting at the end of that walk, it was going to be perfect.
