Chapter 1
The scene was sad and filled with tears. Amelia stood with Max as people walked by giving their condolences. Tears are flowing as they say goodbye to Amelia's father, Evan. He had been ill for a long time with cancer. "Uncle Max I need a break; I am going outside for a little while."
When she was outside a familiar friend came over. "Hi Ames. How are you handling things?"
"Dad was sick for a long time. I knew this day was coming. It just doesn't make it any easier. I miss him so much."
"If me or dad can help you call us."
"Thank you, Mitch. I have plans that should lead me to the future I want. My dad and I had planned it out for me. You know him Mr. it has to be prepared for."
After the funeral Amelia went home feeling sad. She decides to call some friends. Sue, I was wondering if you and Linda would like to go to the beach for a few days. We still have the house there. I don't think I am going to keep it if I start school and get the job I want, I won't have time. It would be nice to use it for one last hurray."
"I will call Linda and be over in an hour."
Amelia was sitting on the couch looking around at the empty house when the girls got there. "Hi girl are you ready?"
"I am. Are you two ready?"
"We are always ready to have fun with our girl." The two girls each took one of her arms and dragged her to the car. "Ames let's hit the beach before it gets too late."
Amelia enjoyed the beach house with her friends reliving old memories of the times her and her family spent there together. "Do you remember when Uncle Max and his family came here with your family and us?"
"It was the only time all of us got together at once it was for the fourth of July. It was the best weekend ever."
"Mitch almost drowned you. He went out to deep, and you went to help him in and he panicked."
"Boy did he. Your dad jumped up to get to both of you so fast."
"Don't remind me Sue. Mitch was so scared he almost took me out. Thank goodness Dad came out when we got closer to the shore."
"It's our last night here, I got us some wine and some cheese and crackers. I thought we would get a little tipsy. We aren't driving and can't get in trouble." Linda winked at us.
"No one to stop us either." Sue realized that wasn't a good statement when she saw Amelia's face. "Sorry I didn't mean it that way."
"Its fine, someone better open the wine."
Monday morning came way too soon. They all finished their coffee and got packed. "Thanks, guys, for spending time with me. It made me feel so much better. It's time I go home and pack up dad's stuff and get ready for school."
"Why are you going to school, it is summer break."
"I signed up for summer classes. I did online classes for the last year and last summer. The only thing that stops me from having two years of credit is an art course and I can take that now and have two years under my belt."
"Can't you double that course up during regular classes and take the summer off."
"I can but I am afraid that I will go nuts sitting in that house by myself. I also signed up to learn another instrument. I can't stay in the house and think about him not being here."
"I haven't heard you play the piano in a while."
"I have been busy taking care of dad and doing class work. I have the old piano in the sunroom I can give it a try before we leave this morning."
