"Hey, sorry, it took a little long." April, who is standing in the living room a little out of breath,
grabs a pizza, devours it and picks Jax up. "Thanks for looking after him." She kisses my cheek.
"It's okay, Jax is a good boy." I say and take a bite of the pizza.
"You look exhausted."
"So am I." I look at April.
"Okay, then I'll go. Call me if you need anything." she says and walks out of the house. I look at the big clock on the wall and after ten minutes Hayden comes into the living room. He sits down on the floor with the children, plays a little with the Legos and then sits down next to me on the couch.
"Come here." he says and points to his lap. Even though I'm pretty angry with the men, I missed him and so I sit on his lap.
He puts his arms around my waist and I put my arms around his neck.
"What did you do today?" I ask.
"Helping my mother with something." he answers and I nod because I know he's lying.
"And you?" he asks.
"We were at the park and then Chris came and..."
"Chris? What did he want?"
"To talk." I say and look at him with a frown.
"Aha."
"Really. He apologized for how he treated me back then and told me he cheated on me."
Hayden's face pales a little and I know we're both thinking the same thing. My fate with blond-haired and blue-eyed men isn't exactly the best thing in my life.
"How are you feeling?" he asks and strokes my back.
"Really?" I ask and he nods. "I hate all men right now."
He laughs, but my face remains serious. "Oh, are you serious?" he asks.
"Yes, dead serious." I say and get up from his lap.
He looks after me as I go into the kitchen to get a snack for Anakin.
When I come back and give Anakin his snack, I sit down on the couch and Hayden
looks at me from the side and I ignore his look. "Mommy." Anakin holds his plastic bowl and wants to indicate that it is empty and that I should refill it.
I stand up with a smile and take the bowl and Anakin toddle behind me.
I put another cookie in it and he runs after me into the living room where he sits back down in his seat.
Hayden pulls me towards him by the hand, spreads his legs and wants me to sit on his lap. I slap his hand away and go into the kitchen.
I hear him sigh and whisper to Anakin.
"Mommy." Anakin calls out loudly and as I put the glass of water in the sink and go into the living room, he points to his sister, who starts to cry when she sees me.
"Come here sweetie," I say and sit down on the couch, pull up my t-shirt and open my nursing bra and feed her.
"I..." Hayden starts, but with a look from me he becomes quiet. And looks at my chest and then quickly at the TV. Anakin puts the bowl on the coffee table and tries to pull himself up by trying to sit on the couch. Laughing, Hayden lifts him up and
sits him in the middle of us.
Then he snuggles up to his father and watches TV with him.
