When I finally got home, I decided to rest first and told yaya to prepare a snack for me.

“Ma’am, your snack is ready,” the helper called out from the kitchen.

“Come here in my room, please put it on my table,” I said, not even bothering to look up. I was starving.

I devoured the snack like I hadn't eaten in days. After a few bites, I glanced at the clock—it was almost 11:00 AM. I could feel my stomach growl louder than ever. Once I finished, I decided it was time to shower. The sticky feeling of sweat on my skin was driving me crazy, so I rushed walking to the bathroom.

---

An hour past, I stepped out of the shower, my body feeling lighter, refreshed. I had always taken my time in the bathroom, even spending hours soaking in the hot water when I could. But today, I just wanted to get ready and move on with my day. I dried my hair, which was growing longer than usual. I glanced at the mirror, almost tempted to cut it, but pushed the thought away.

After finishing my makeup and getting dressed, I grabbed my phone and was greeted by a message from Frea.

From: Frea

Seah! I’m back in the Philippines! Just landed.

Me:
Wait, you’re back? Why didn’t you tell me? I would've picked you up!

From: Frea:
It was last minute. Can't wait to see you. Let’s hang out soon, promise?

Me:
Rest for a bit first! You’re not going out already, right? Also, we’re visiting my future sister-in-law’s house later. Come with me!

From: Frea:
WHAT? Mamanhikan already? Who's getting married?!

Me:
My brother, duh. Want to join? I’ll wait for you at home.

From: Frea:
Wait, what? I need to meet your brother’s fiancée? This is going to be good. I’m in! See you soon!

I was practically jumping for joy. It felt like forever since I last saw her. Frea was my go-to for everything. She knew all my secrets, my dramas, and my random rants. She was family, not just a friend.

“Dad, what time are we leaving for Ate Maxine’s place? Can I bring Frea along? She’s back in the Philippines,” I asked, already getting excited.

“Sure, is she coming here first?” Dad grinned. “I owe that girl everything.”

“She’ll be here later. Don’t worry, Dad,” I replied with a smile.

“We’ll leave at 7 PM for your brother’s fiancée’s place,” Dad added, standing up to prepare for the evening.

“Got it!” I said, giving a quick thumbs-up.

The helper called from downstairs, “Lunch is ready.”

“Please call Mom, so she can join with us” I said, heading out of my room.

“Okay, Ma’am,” she replied.

As I was about to head downstairs, the doorbell rang. I ran to the door, grinning. There she was—Frea. I didn’t even let her knock, I opened the door wide for her.

“Frea, you’re here! Come in! Lunch is ready,” I said, pulling her inside.

“Hey, Seah! How’ve you been?” she beamed, already making her way to the dining room. “Tita, Tito, hello!”

“Come on in, sweetheart, join us,” my mom called out warmly.

“Make yourself at home, Frea,” Dad added.
