In school and throughout our childhoods we are warned about the dangers
Of alcohol
For it wreck our livers
And you only get one
Of cigarettes
Saying they'd choke our lungs
Steal away what little breath is given to us
Of pills
That they'd numb the mind
And allow you to fall down rabbit holes
Not unlike Alice
Of needles
Run through our veins
And impair our beating hearts
Of powders
Sniff and huffed
Capable of stopping our hearts
And destroying our brains
Of smoke
That'll blind me
Steal away the precious and beautiful world
But what we are never told about
Warned about
Was you
No one told me how you would
Make me want to drink
To drown the butterflies and memories of you
Steal my breath away with a glance
Numb my mind to the red flags
And fix it on you
Fall for you
Cause this beating heart of mine to go faster and faster
Or break and crumble
Blind me to all the negative
Only magnify the positive
For you are my deadliest addiction
