Moon

She was like the moon
In envy of the sun's attentions
Most people didn't pay attention to the way she shined
No one stayed long enough to see how beautiful she made the night
The beauty she cascaded across everything she touched

I was the ocean
Unpredictable
Sinking and drowning all who try to dive deep
But out of everyone
I tried to reflect the radiance of her
But I would cause ripples that distorted myself
And in turn blurred how she saw herself

I loved from a far
When I knew I shouldn't of let her fall into the depths of my heart and brain
Because all that can be found is raging rapids
Unforgivable waters

But I loved her
She turned a raging sea into a
Calm lake
She soothed the part of me no one could touch
But that terrified me
Because I cannot be attached to someone who deserves better
For the moon deserves stars
That'll light up her night
Shine in a way that makes her seem even brighter

But for now I'll savor the pull she created
The imprint she left
The heart she took
