"Star... I don't wanna do this, ya hear? You know I struggle with readin' things in the right order and all that bullshit..." Marco muttered.

"Marco, Marco, Marco. The book club is a welcoming place, from beginners to true novel enjoyers." Star said matter of factly.

Great. Marco HAD to go to this book club. Star wasn't giving him the choice. He hated reading, mainly because he struggled with it. Star had told him before that he should probably get checked for dyslexia or something, but he didn't really wanna be paying $80-$150. It felt like a lot of money to his teen self.

"Yeah well whatever, if I get there and filled with NEEKS I'm totally snapping ya wand in half." He threatened.

"Ha!" Star scoffed.

"You can't. It's made of alloys that go beyond human understanding." She grinned.

"You underestimate my power." He smirked.

"Don't try it." She shot back.

They arrived at the library, and to Marco's utter dismay, the library was in fact filled with NERDS. They were all sitting in a circle holding their hefty novels written 100's of years ago in old English. They all greeted Star and Marco warmly, which Marco HATED.

"Come, come, sit." Said one lady.

Marco sighed, she just sounded prissy and refined. Like an absolute genius in the making. This was gonna be embarrassing he was sure.

The pair sat down and the leader of the group seemed to speak up.

"Hello, my friends, to the..."

She checked her notepad.

"28th book club meeting."

"Oh jeez..." Marco sighed to himself, earning a punch in the arm from Star.

"Ow! Star!"

The other members shushed him, making him lean back on his chair, annoyed.

"So, how about we all tell each other what we have been reading?" The leader asked.

They went around the circle asking.

"I have been reading CRIME AND PUNISHMENT... a book about murder, poverty and being arrogant..." one girl said.

"Psh, you'd like that book Star," Marco whispered to her.

She punched his arm again, he went to protest her violent retaliation but instead decided to slouch in his chair more.

"I have been reading The Great Gatsby, it's a very intriguing book on the secrets that we don't get to see in some people..." a guy said mysteriously.

Marco was feeling his eyes droop. This was an absolute snooze fest.

"As for me, I have been reading my Book Of Spells. It is a huge history book about my homeland, my magic and all sorts" Star chimed.

Now it was Marco's turn. Star smirked, wondering what he'd have to say.

"Me? Uhhh..."

Marco thinks back to the last book he read.

"It was a fan fiction." Marco smiled proudly.

The people at the book club raised an eyebrow.

"Not... Dickens or anything else more refined?" One asked.

"Nope. A fan fiction. A Star Wars one."

"Oh jeez, we got a nerd here." Star booed.

Marco shot her a glare.

"As I was saying, it's a fan fiction about this guy, and well his wifey dies or something, and he has this like- firey power or something. Pretty kickass. There's the fire guy, the clone trooper guy, some twins who are the fire guy's children but like... with the dead wifey but like... the kids were born after she died and the fire guy did some kinda ritual to make em'... man it's some crazy shit. I think it was called like... Firey Follower or something? I ain't gotta clue I'll be honest with you guys haha."

The group didn't seem amused.

"Fanfiction is for low-life losers who can't accept the reality that their favourite book or show ain't coming back." One guy commented with sass, being completely wrong about the extremely attractive and likeable readers of Fanfiction.

"Or for weirdos who like shipping for some reason" a girl VERY INCORRECTLY.

Star and Marco weren't exactly sure why they exchanged a glance there but they did.

"And for people who want to change the story just to fit into some kind of romance trope, like ugh, the worst, frenemies to lovers." Another person chimed in.

Star and Marco shared another glance, again unsure why they were doing so.

Marco shrugged,

"Suit yourselves. I'll stick to my Flamey Servant and you guys can stick to..."

He picked up a book from a shelf.

"... The Complete History of History books..."

"That's a classic." One commented.

Marco leaned over to Star.

"Star this place sucks ass." He whispered.

Star sighed and looked over to him.

"Zip it. Can it. Whatever. Just, try and endure ONE meeting. Please? For me?"

He hated it when she did that... that stupid face with the wide eyes that pleaded with him. He of course had no choice in the matter.

"Whatever... but I'm not gonna enjoy this."

And enjoy it he did not. Reading things was hard on his own, but this book club was intense, they were overanalysing each little sentence of whatever skyscraper-thick book they had in their grubby little mitts. It was like hell for someone like Marco. When it was finally over, Marco had taken a hit from it, he couldn't lie. He felt dumb. Like a rock.

"Marco, are you okay?" Star asked as they left the library.

"Yeah just... whatever, ya know?" He shrugged.

"Marco you said that when you're not okay," Star said sternly.

"Star... d'ya think I'm... stupid?" He asked.

"What? Marco, absolutely not."

"Oh, please, I didn't understand a crumb of what they just discussed."

"That doesn't make you stupid, Marco. Neither does having reading disorders alright?"

He smiled at her, a rare sign of their unusual friendship.

"Thanks, Star."

Honestly, at that moment, she felt like doing something even more unusual. The romance book they'd analysed had certainly affected her... now she felt like being poetic.

"Marco... thy eyes are like oceans I can drown in..." she hummed.

Marco turned pink.

"Estrella, ¿qué carajo fue eso?" He muttered.

"It means your eyes are beautiful, dumbass."

"I know that, idiot! I'm just askin' why you said that?"

"I just wanted to cheer ya up, Diaz."

Marco smiled.

"Well uh... your eyes are pretty neat too. They're like... hmm... like the sun if it was blue." Marco said bashfully.

She smiled, that was ABSOLUTELY the best she'd be getting out of him. Period.

"Thanks, Marco." She grinned.

"Now, let's go home. I think we've broken the fourth wall too many times in this one shot. I'm tired." Star grumbled.

"I have absolutely NO clue what that means, Star." Marco smiled blissfully, walking next to her.
