Oblivious (Part 2)

Star walked through the portal and arrived at the restaurant. There she met Oskar, who was waiting for her.

"Hey Star"

"Hey Oskar, What's up?"

"Eh, nothing much. Should we go inside?"

"Sure"

The pair walked inside as Marco snuck away from the alleyway he was hiding in.

"Okay. Let's do this" He whispered.

Marco walked up to the entrance, but began having second thoughts. Was this the right thing to do?

"No. I have to do this to make sure it goes well. Even if it hurts me"

Marco entered the restaurant, without gaining the attention of his best friend. He sat down near Oskar and Star but hid his face in the menu.

"So, Oskar, You have any interests?" Star asked nervously.

"Yeah, Music, ferrets, y'know. But you know that"

"Yeah.. heh" Star laughed nervously

It was like torture listening to this awful conversation to Marco. He hated it.

"So, you like anything, Star?"

"Well I like unicorns, dolphins, rainbows and glitter and-"

Star took a deep gasp and continued blabbering about puppies and sparkles. Oskar didn't seem to care. But for Marco, it was like music to his ears listening to Star just talk away.

"Yeah, and that's basically it"

The waiter suddenly walked to to the pair and asked for their order. Star ordered some
expensive junk and so did Oskar. Then, Oskar just pulled out his phone and completely ignored Star's presence. Star didn't really know what to do she she just sat there twiddling her fingers. Marco was now annoyed at Oskar for being an idiot.

Soon, the food came and Oskar finally put his phone down. And the pair began to eat.

Star looked over at her drink. It was the wrong one.

"Oh, wrong drink. I'll just-"

Star picked up the drink but tripped and spilled it on Oskar.

"OH COME ON! SERIOUSLY? I JUST RENTED THIS TODAY! GOD WHY ARE YOU SUCH A-"

Marco heard this. And he was angry.

"DON'T YOU DARE FINISH THAT SENTENCE GREASON!" Marco interrupted as he stood up from his seat.

The whole restaurant was in silence. Star was shocked at her best friend's appearance and angry. Marco walked up to Oskar and stared him down. Eventually he pushed Oskar aside and helped Star up. The pair walked outside and Star slapped Marco across the face.

"Marco seriously what the hell?! I go out for one night and you show up unannounced again! Didn't I tell you I didn't need a hero to come and save me?! God you are just so- URGH!"

"Star, look I-"

"Get out of here Marco! I'll talk to you later!"

Marco turned away in shame and walked away. He blew it. Star hates him now. He felt like an idiot.

Star walked inside and apologised to Oskar and they continued their 'date'

Marco lied on the couch, his tie was askew on the floor and his top button was undone, his hair was messy also from the times he ran his hand through his hair in annoyance. He was devouring some cold nachos he had made earlier. He hated himself for being a moron. Why did he- UGH.

Star walked in the house and slammed the door, which almost woke up the sleeping Diazes upstairs. She walked over to the TV Marco was watching and switched it off. She grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him to her sound-proof room. If she wasn't so angry, she'd think Marco looked very cute with his messy mop of hair and suit. But she was pissed at him, so she didn't think much of his looks. The pair arrived at her room and Star turned to Marco, who was looking down in shame.

"Marco, what the hell!!!??"

"Star, I was just trying to-"

"Trying to what!? Ruin my date!? What was you thinking?"

"I was just trying to look out for you"

"Clearly not! You were there because you wanted to be nosy and ruin my night!"

"I just wanted to make sure your date went well! I- know how much you like him" Marco said sadly.

"Just- get out! I don't even know why we're friends if you do this kinda stuff!"

Ouch. That stung.

"I'm sorry" Marco said as he walked out.

Oh no. Now Star felt guilty. She had the right to be angry at him but maybe she crossed the line?

"Wait! Marco I didn't mean-"

Marco was already gone.

"Star sighed as she got changed into her PJ's. She climbed into her bed and closed her eyes but She couldn't help but think about how hot Marco looked when he was standing up for her. The way he stared Oskar down. The way he dismissed him to help her. She didn't need a hero, but when Marco was being a hero he was ...

Irresistible.

Star always made it clear she didn't need a hero, but now Marco showed her what it was like to feel protected, she loved it. She, of course, was still pretty angry at him, but best friends sort everyone out in the end, right?

...

The next day came and Marco walked downstairs to the kitchen to make breakfast. Thank god it was a training day so there was no school. There he saw Star, still in her PJ's eating cereal with Mrs Diaz.

"Ah, Marco! Your awake! Come, sit with us!"

Great. The only seat left was next to Star. He walked over and sat next to her, not saying a word, and eating his cereal in silence.

"Okay. What's up. You and Star are always chatty to each other"

"Nothing. Just tired I think" Marco grumbled.

"Okay?" Mrs Diaz answered, suspicious.

Star finished her breakfast and walked away quietly. Marco sighed audibly and turned to his mom.

"Okay, you got me. I may have made Star a little angry last night"

"How?"

"Well, she had this date with this guy, and I may have tagged along in secret"

"Marco Ubaldo Diaz!"

"I know, I feel like a jerk, but I was just trying to look out for her. Eventually, she spills this drink, right? And the guy gets mad at her and, keep in mind this guy has been a idiot for this entire date, shouts at her. I want having it and stood up to him in rage. So yeah she's pissed I showed up and I-"

"Language"

"Sorry. Anyway I ruined her night and I feel bad"

"Maybe you should apologise"

"Yeah, maybe. She's really angry right now. And she said some mean stuff to me, so I'll wait until she cools off to apologise"

"Maybe if you apologise now she won't be angry?"

"Maybe. I might as well try"

So Marco went upstairs to Star's room.
They needed to talk
