It was a warm Thursday at Echo Creek. Star and Marco were eating lunch at the canteen. Marco was trying to carefully explain to Star why it wasn't okay to explode a goose because it took your bread.
"Well, I think that that goose deserved it. nobody steals bread from me"
"Star, it's a defenceless goose. It took your bread because it's hungry and It's stupid. C'mon, you just blew it up into smithereens!"
"Whatever. I don't have a spell that can un-atomise that goose anyway. Just forget about it"
Suddenly, the bell rang, meaning lunch was over and Star and Marco had to go to classes.
"I'll see you later Marco"
"Bye Star"
As Star walked away Marco couldn't help but gaze at her. He was definitely in love. Jackie just wasn't as kind and funny as her, and besides, she clearly wasn't interested.
Suddenly, Janna appeared out of nowhere. As usual.
"Heya Marco. Staring at Star again?"
"Huh!? W-What are you talking about?"
"Oh, don't act all innocent, Marco. I hid a camera on you. I see you stare at her all the time"
"WHAT?! JANNA GET IT OFF ME!!"
"Yeah, I can't do that. It's permanently attached to you now. It'll be there when you die. Cool right?"
"WHAT THE HELL?"
"Anyway, we have places to be, let's go"
Marco sighs loudly as he walks to class.
...
The end of the day finally comes and Star and Marco run out of school with glee.
"It's Thursday today! You know what that means Star, right?!"
"Of course, heh. Sorry Marco I gotta cancel today, I have something great to tell you!"
"Oh- what's that?"
"I may or may not have got myself a date with Oskar!"
Marco froze. He felt his heart break into millions of little pieces. Of course, this was just a date, so Marco could only hope it didn't go well.
"Oh- That's great, Star. How late will you be?"
"Pretty late, it's a school night so we won't be able to do anything. Sorry Marco"
"It's fine! I know how long you've been waiting for this! Go get him!" Marco said with a hinge of sadness.
"I will. Let's go home first. I gotta think of what to wear!"
"Ugh, you're not gonna make me rate all your clothes again, right?"
"Umm, yes"
Marco sighs loudly. Secretly he liked rating all of Star's clothes. He thought Star looked very pretty when she was all dressed up. To be fair, he thought she looked pretty all the time.
"Quick, let's go!"
Star pushed Marco through the portal she had made with his scissors. He soon found himself in Star's room. Star quickly clicked her mirror, turning it into a cover so that Marco couldn't see her dressing up.
Marco sat there, half asleep as Star put her dresses on.
"What do you think of this one?"
"Ugh, Star you look pretty in all these dresses. Just pick one"
Pretty? Marco had never called her that before. It was usually just platonic words like 'amazing' or 'great' to describe her looks.
"Pretty? Marco you charmer"
Secretly, she liked Marco calling her pretty.
"What? I'm saying you look good. Please just save me from this nightmare"
"You can save yourself by picking the best dress, Marco"
"Uh, okay. The blue one I guess"
Marco thought Star looked great in all the dresses, but Marco thought she looked amazing in the 'blue one'
"Okay, Marco. The blue one it is"
Star put the blue dress on and walked out.
Man, it took Marco's breath away. Was he turning red? He hoped not.
"Marco, you okay? You're kinda red. You hot or something?" Star asked as she applied makeup to her face.
"Um, err, I-"
"Oh, I see. My beauty has left you at a loss for words" Star said jokingly.
"Yeah" Marco said automatically.
HE WASNT SUPPOSED TO SAY THAT. SHE WAS JOKING OH NO OH NO.
Star was now red.
"I was joking, Marco" she laughed nervously.
"What? You do look very beautiful, Star" he said, only making it worse.
Instead of being awkward, Star was actually very happy about the comment. You could tell. She was as red as Marco's hoodie.
"Awww~ Marco that's really sweet. I hope Oskar feels the same way"
Bruh.
"Yeah, me too"
Did she really just? Whatever.
"Okay. I'm going now. You're leaving now anyway, right?"
"Yeah, I'll see you later. And thank you, Marco. I have newfound confidence after your... 'compliment'"
Marco turned red again.
"Yeah. See ya"
Marco walked downstairs as Star left using Marco's scissors.
"Marco are you okay? You look a little-"
"Yeah I'm fine" Marco interrupted his mother.
He grabbed some tortilla chips and ran upstairs to his bed. He was sad about Star's date. And embarrassed about his response, too. He wanted to make sure Star's date went well, however. He didn't know why earlier he hoped it was a disaster but he knew Star liked Oskar a lot. He was willing to sacrifice his happiness for hers.
Then he had an idea. An idea he wasn't very proud of but he needed to do it. He wasn't going to do anything too bad, but he was going to spy on Star and Oskar. It was a not-so-nice idea but making sure everything went according to plan was necessary. That meant it was good right? Marco quickly went to change into a suit to blend in with the crowd because the restaurant was apparently 'posh as a poodle' as Star put it. He got changed and grabbed his dimensional scissors that Star left for him. He was going to be a great friend by doing this, helping Star. Right?
