Silent solitude

Sitting on the ground, eyes closed, I held the black horn Seris had given me in my hand. As I pulled mana from it to refine my core, I felt the incredible amount of energy stored inside, which alone could probably help upgrade my core to silver, but which I knew I would never have enough time for.

The Scythes had started their attacks more than an hour ago, and from what Seris told me, they weren't planning on staying here for too long, which meant I'd never have enough time to absorb all the mana, especially if I had to go assist Tessia in some capacity.

I didn't know how strong the other Scythes were, but if they were as strong as Seris, I wasn't sure if Tessia could win a 1 on 1, much less a fight against the entire group.

Although I felt the urge to run over to Tessia and help her, I knew that with my current powers I would only be a burden; the only reason to do so would be to go against what Scythe Seris told me to do.

However, since she openly admitted she was working against Agrona and wanted to help Dicathen and had taken significant steps in that direction, I had to consider that she might be genuinely trying to help us in our cause.

Not that using reverse physiologies wouldn't be out of the question for Agrona or his lackeys, but it would be an extremely roundabout way to get me to do what they wanted.

Either way, even if she was lying to me, I am probably helping Tess a lot more by keeping Seris here and not adding her firepower to the enemy's team.

Continuing to anxiously wait, I felt Seris observe me with particular interest, her sharp glare passing all over my body, which annoyed me slightly but which I ultimately couldn't do much about.

Then, as I continued to absorb the seemingly endless flow of mana from the horn and got on the verge of getting to the light-yellow stage, I felt a sudden and extremely powerful presence appear in the center of the academy.

Just feeling that power had me leap up, draw my blade, and take a defensive stance, as I had no idea what was going on.

-There is no need to panic, Leywin." Said Seris in a calm and controlled tone with a weird sense of relief, as I only gave her a brief glimpse while keeping my guard up. "Your friend has activated the full power of the Legacy." She explained as I frowned.

-Are you telling me that the power Tessia was using before wasn't the full package?" I quizzed her to have her confirm what I had guessed.

-No." She answered with a slight shake of her head. "The power the princess has now accessed is only an insignificant fragment of the Legacy's true power. Her usual powers are merely leftovers of that fragment, a side effect of having the Legacy, if you will." She stated as I started heavily doubting what she was telling me. "Or so Agrona told us." She added as I struggled to appreciate just how potent this power was.

For me to be able to sense it so vividly from so far away, it meant that Tessia probably had enough power to take on all the Lances at once, and it wouldn't even be close, much more like a one-sided beating. And that much power was merely an "insignificant fragment" of the real thing?

No wonder Agrona is so hellbent on trying to get the Legacy for himself; with just a dozen of those, he could take over the entire planet before the Asura could even notice that something weird was going on.

If the Legacy was as strong as Seris made it out to be, I felt like the full power of the Legacy would let it destroy a whole continent, maybe more.

-And what am I supposed to do now?" I asked her with a mix of doubt, anxiety, and clear distrust, as I frankly felt overwhelmed by everything that was going on.
