Pushing the door of the council's meeting room wide open, I stepped forward with a level of determination I had never felt before, ignoring Tessia's cry and the king's bafflement.

Although part of me felt bad for leaving like this, Tessia, I didn't have any time to waste when Hanna was in danger.

As for those fools who serve as our kings, they could trip, fall, and drown in a pond for all I cared. They were utterly useless and couldn't take any meaningful decisions when push came to shove on any of the important subjects.

"What's even the point of having a council if no one can agree on anything and just keeps ruling their country like before?" I angrily muttered to myself, clenching my hand around my mage staff as I walked past the captain of the group of guards stationed in front of the council's meeting room.

Glancing in my direction, the numerous guards all displayed a somewhat confused expression, clearly dubious about me having the right to leave the council's room, but I wasn't planning on staying here long enough to let any of them question me.

Pressing on, I almost pushed the guards out of my way, only for one of them to put a hand on my shoulder to stop me, to which I answered by jerking my head around to face them and shooting daggers at him with my eyes.

Hesitating for a moment, the soldier tightened their grip and began to open their mouth to speak, only for a loud, booming voice to silence them.

-LUCAS!" Yelled my brother from the end of a corridor while walking toward me with heavy and determined steps, which had pushed the surrounding crowd to naturally make space for him to move. "GET BACK IN THE MEETING ROOM THIS INSTANCE!"

Jerking my arm to free myself from the soldier's grasp, I walked straight ahead toward my brother, looking him dead in the eyes before clearly and firmly answering: "No."

-What!?" He snapped, halfway flabbergasted and halfway humiliated by my sudden defiance.

-I'm heading to Vildorial." I stated, continuing to walk forward, ignoring him entirely, until he too grabbed me by the shoulder to hold me back.

-What are you even planning to do there?" He aggressively demanded to know.

-I'm going to save my wife." I answered coldly, pulling my arm forward to get out of his grip, only for him to hold tighter, keeping me trapped in place.

Turning my head around to face my brother, I barely listened as he scolded me, reminding me that there was nothing I could do, like everyone else had been telling me since she got taken away.

-Are you done?" I asked in an annoyed and bored tone, his speech having only managed to waste my time.

-Have you not listened to what I told you?!" He shouted back. "You won't even be able to set foot in the arena where the trial is being held, much less influence the verdict! This is a trial held by the Greysunder royal family; you have no right to interfere." He stated as I could no longer hide my anger at his stupid obsession with following the rules.

-AND I'M JUST SUPPOSED TO STAY HERE AND LET MY WIFE DIE?!" I screamed back at him, using my staff to push against the arm holding me down. "Don't even pretend that this is a trail! This is an execution!"

-And you think you can free her? The entirety of Darv's royal guard is here; you wouldn't even be able to take a single one of them on, and that's not even taking the Lances into account!" He shouted while holding me even tighter with his hand, only managing to anger me further.

-I KNOW!" I barked back.

-YOU'RE GOING TO GET KILLED!"

-I'd rather die than sit around and do nothing like you! I don't care if it's stupid, I don't care if I have virtually no chance of success, and I don't care if I have to fight every single soldier in Darv to get to Hannadreda!" I yelled at his face, feeling anger coursing through my veins. "Do you think she hesitated when she had to save me from Father's grasp?!" I rhetorically asked him. "Do you think she carefully weighed all the possible outcomes and their likelihood before deciding to save me?! Do you think Hanna, Tessia, and Arthur weren't ready to fight off all the soldiers there to save me while you were negotiating with a monster wearing human skin? While YOU were ready to let me be utterly miserable for the rest of my life?!" I screamed at him, spouting out all the anger I never knew I had in me. "You are only repeating the same mistake!" I screamed before breaking away from his hold while he stared at me, frozen in place with no idea of what to do or how to act.
