“You have no idea how badly I needed to kiss you.”
I smiled back, my fingers gently outlining his face. “And you have no idea how much I needed you to,” I replied softly. He groaned, capturing my lips once more. This time, the kiss was hotter, more urgent. It spoke of promises made and promises to be kept. His hands roamed over my body, igniting sparks wherever they touched. I squirmed beneath him, my own hands tugging at his shirt. He broke the kiss long enough to unbutton his shirt, and toss it aside before returning to my lips.
Our kisses grew more passionate, our touches more urgent. He broke our kiss and I gazed into his eyes, seeing the love and desire burning there.
He nuzzled into the curve of my neck, his breath hot against my skin. “You're mine, Jahanvi. Every inch of you belongs to me.” His hand skimmed down my side, over my hip, and down my thigh, making me shiver. “If this would have been our first night together, I would have devoured you, worshiped you like you were my Goddess.”
I don't why but his words made me smile slightly and I ran my fingers through his hair.
“I'll soon be yours. And yours. Forever.”
He lifted his body up and looked into my eyes. “And the day you become mine forever, I'll take you for a visit to heaven.”
I chuckled. “You talk so dirty.” He caressed his thumb upon my cheek, “And you like it.”
I lifted my body slightly up and pecked his lips, “I do.”
“I know.”
I palmed his cheek, “Let's go outside.”
He nodded his head, sitting up and wearing his shirt again. My eyes suddenly noticed something. I sat up and held his hand midway, tracing his chest lightly, “You got a tattoo?”
He nodded his head. I said, “But I didn't see it before.”
“Because I got it some five days ago.”
I asked in a low voice, confused, “Compass?”
He held my hand and placed my palm beside his tattoo on his heart. “Look again. Carefully.”
I did. And my eyes widened when I saw that instead of ‘N’ for North, there was another letter. ‘J’.
“No matter wherever I go, whatever I do, the compass of my heart will always point towards you, baby. You’re my north. You've always been. Always.”
I blinked, trying to hold back the sudden wave of emotion threatening to spill from my eyes. The realization that he had done this, that he had marked his skin permanently with a part of me, hit me like a storm I wasn’t prepared for. My hands moved of their own accord, tracing the outline of the compass lightly, my fingers trembling as they touched the “J.”
He added, his voice low, edged with the vulnerability I rarely saw in him. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you after you stopped talking with me. About us. About everything. And I knew—I knew I’d always find my way back to you, no matter what. So, I got this. To remind me. To remind you. That no matter where life takes us, you'll always be my north, baby.”
My fingertips stilled over the compass, resting gently against his skin. “Devansh...” I breathed his name, my heart was aching with everything I wanted to say, but couldn’t. How could I tell him that this was too much, that I didn’t deserve this—him?
But he just smiled softly, as if reading my thoughts, shaking his head slightly. “Don’t say it. Don’t tell me it’s too much. It's nothing in front of the love I feel for you.”
I swallowed hard, trying to find the right words. “Dev, I—”
He lifted his hand, placing it gently over mine, over the tattoo, “You don’t have to say anything, Jahanvi. Just...know this. I’m not giving up. Not on us. Not ever. Never ever.”
I leaned down and placed a kiss right over his tattoo. He smiled, “We should go outside. Otherwise they'll add the title of “Shameless” along with my name just like you did earlier.”
I laughed, standing up from the bed. My eyes roamed around his room while he wore his shirt. My favorite part was the ceiling to floor windows.
A large couch, deep brown leather, sat in the center of the room, facing the windows—perfect for someone who enjoyed solitude and thought. It wasn’t neat in a way you’d expect a royal’s place to be, there was a stack of books on the low coffee table, half-open, a few of them dog-eared. One was clearly a historical novel, the other a political biography, and a small sketchpad lay beside them with quick, rough drawings.
The far wall was lined with shelves, not ornate like those in the palace, but functional and practical, each filled with books. A photo frame containing photographs of his siblings and him hanging on the wall. Another one of his mother and father. No polished, gleaming chandeliers, no grand displays of wealth. Just him. Just real. Just human.
“You come here when you need to disappear,” I whispered, more a statement than a question.
He smiled, “You got it right.”.
I walked towards him and placed my hands around his neck. He held me by my waist. “And where will you go when you need to disappear — from me— taking into consideration that now I know about this place.”
With a jerk, he pulled me close and whispered against my lips, “I will never want to run away from you.”
“Hn? And what if we argue, fight and I end up eating your head to a level that you would want to run away?”
He smiled, tracing my bottom lip with his thumb lightly, “Your bad. I would love to convert that argument and fight into our steamy intimate night. If you doubt, try me.”
I smiled and pushed him away. “Let's go outside.”
He chuckled as I opened the door and walked outside of his room.
“Hey! I thought you would take a complete night to finish whatever you two were doing inside,” Kunwar-sa teased and I rolled my eyes, sitting on the sofa.
Dev followed behind me and sat beside me. “Will you ever get over your teasing?”
“Never!” Kunwar-sa replied flatly and Priya laughed.
Dev shifted his attention to Priya, “Haan toh sali sahiba, bataiye kya khayegi aap?”
“Aapki sali sahiba ne humara sirr pehle hi kha liya hai. Pet bhar gaya hoga Inka,” Kunwar -sa commented and laughed.
“Shut up. You were eating my head! Mad man.” She retaliated.
“You were the one who was asking me foolish questions since time immemorial, honeybee!” he replied.
I felt Dev leaning towards me as he whispered, “You had a doubt on them? Seriously? They fight like kids.”
“Stop calling me honeybee you dumb ass!” She yelled at him.
“Maybe I overthinked..” I whispered to Dev and he nodded his head.
We sat there for another hour. Kunwar-sa and Dev ordered food. Ofcourse, mine and Priya's choice was preferred. We chatted, laughed. We had a video call with Devishi who became so excited after listening about how Dev proposed to me. Kunwar-sa sent her a photo of us which excited her even more.
After an hour, Kunwar-sa dropped us both home safely.
