It's been a week since he proposed to me

It's been a week since he proposed to me. It's been a week since I've been wearing the most beautiful ring in this world and have been hiding it from my parents. Because he said he'll himself come to talk to my parents.  I guess he's busy these days.

We talk quite less these days. He says he is busy with some business. I understand. He said he talked with his mother and told her that he is going to marry me. Rajmata didn't agree. I had expected that. I told Devansh to try to convince her once more. He promised he would do it, just not now as he is super busy with something very important. I didn't force him much.

I was sitting in our room with Priya when a loud voice came from outside. A loud cry. Priya looked at me. I looked at her. And we climbed down the bed to walk outside the room and our eyes fell on our mother sitting on the entrance of the door.

We ran towards her.

“Maa-sa? Maa-sa, what happened?”

She was crying, and wasn't speaking even a single word.

“Maa-sa? What happened? Please tell me.” I asked, desperately.

“Maa-sa?” Priya said.

Then my eyes moved towards the person standing on the door. He was one of the men in our area. “Kaka-sa? What happened? Why is my Maa-sa crying?”

He lowered down his face and I knew something was wrong. Very very wrong. “What's wrong? What happened?”

Priyanjali was constantly trying to console Maa-sa who wasn't uttering a word. She was just crying.

Suddenly, a few more people came towards our home. My heart beat accelerated. My mind was becoming heavy. “What happened?” I shouted with desperation.

“Jahanvi beta… beta… your father!”

My eyes widened, I immediately stood up, “What? What happened to Baapu-sa?”

He gulped, “Y-your father… he… is dead.”

“Are you joking? That's not funny at all!”

He became silent. I stepped out of the house, “Tell me! Tell me!” tears rolled down my eyes.

He lowered his gaze, as if his eyes refused to meet mine. “He is dead.”

It felt as if my soul left my body.

Dead?

I froze. The world around me blurred. I could hear my own heartbeat, loud and thudding in my ears. His words didn’t make sense. None of it made sense.

“What do you mean dead?” I whispered, my voice trembling, my hands shaking as I clutched my tshirt, twisting it tightly in my fingers. “Where is he?”

“He was .. he was coming back home… it seemed…someone attacked him…”

The ground beneath me seemed to shift.
