I walked inside our room and found Jahanvi sitting along with Ishi, Krishiv and Priyanjali. Ishi and Priya were sitting on either side of her. Krishiv was kneeling down in front of her.
I leaned against the door, watching them silently.
“Trust me, they're bitch. Even when I gave my first appearance after wedding, they saw my belly — which was obviously protruded out because I had gained weight — and they started questioning Yuvansh whether he married me because I was pregnant or something like that,” Ishi said to her.
“And you already know how they keep on posting about every single girl they spot me with on their Instagram pages captioning, ‘Krishiv Shourya Singh spotted with his new girlfriend,’ ” Krishiv said to her.
Priyanjali wiped her sister's tears away.
“It's okay, Jaanvi. Don't cry now. See we all are trying to console you, tease you, still you're not smiling,” Ishi said.
I straightened up and cleared my throat. Three of them looked at me and stood up.
I silently asked them to let me talk. They nodded their heads and stepped out of the room without saying a word.
I locked the door behind me and walked to my wife, sitting on the bed beside her.
I nudged her shoulder. She didn't react. I nudged her shoulder again. This time she asked frustratingly, “What, Devansh?”
“Itna gussa?”
“Did you reply to their questions?” she asked.
I gently reached out to hold her hand and locked our fingers.
“You know what baby... There's this thing about…our lives. You would have noticed I avoid going outside much, other than business meetings, work, ofcourse..”
She nodded her head slightly.
“It's not because I don't like partying with my friends, cousins or siblings. Even Ishi avoids giving public appearances a lot. It's not because she is nervous or cannot handle the public. It's because… when we start sharing too much from our life and start giving them a piece of what's going on in our life, they think we have given them the entire access of our lives…. to judge us, to throw negative comments, to question our decisions. They start considering themselves as if they are our grandfather or father.”
She blinked her eyes several times.
I continued in a low voice, “And the truth is.. no matter how hard you try, you can never make them stop from talking about you. As easy as your life becomes when you're rich and prone to the public's eyes, in the same way, it becomes difficult too. Just because they have their mouth, their cameras, their ability to type comments, they start underestimating us.”
“So…what do you do..” she asked.
I shook my head, “Nothing. Nothing at all. Just let them talk. Let them gossip. Let them comment negatively about us. Let them think whatever they want to. Do you think whatever they say or think …will we let this affect our married life?”
