Travis' POV
I should've known Taylor was up to something when she kissed me goodbye that morning with an extra-sweet smile. She had a quick trip to Florida for some meetings and left me with the usual parting words: "Don't get into too much trouble while I'm gone."
Trouble? Me? Never.
What I didn't realise was that she'd already set her own little plan in motion.
See, Taylor had been itching to put up the Christmas tree since Halloween ended. Halloween. I told her, "Babe, it's way too early. We have to get through Thanksgiving first. It's a rule"
"Whose rule?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.
"America's!" I said, throwing my hands up. "You can't just skip Thanksgiving!"
She'd pouted but eventually relented—or so I thought.
Taylor's POV
Travis thinks I'm patient. He thinks I'll wait until Thanksgiving is over to put up the Christmas tree, but that man underestimates my festive spirit.
So, while I was packing for my quick trip to Florida, I made a few calls. Chairayah and Shewana, two of our closest friends and teammates' wives, were more than happy to help me execute Operation Christmas Cheer.
"I want it to look magical," I told them over FaceTime. "Lights, ornaments, garlands—the works."
"Girl, say no more," Chairayah said, grinning. "We've got this."
"Travis is gonna flip," Shewana added, laughing.
"Good," I said, smirking.
Travis' POV
When I got back from practice that evening, I knew something was off. The house was... too quiet.
"Taylor?" I called out, even though I knew she wasn't home.
I walked into the living room, and that's when I saw it.
The Christmas tree.
It wasn't just any Christmas tree—it was massive. Fully decked out with twinkling lights, red and gold ornaments, and a sparkly star on top. There were garlands draped over the mantel, stockings hung, and even fake snow sprinkled on the windowsills.
"What the—" I started, but then I heard laughter coming from the kitchen.
Chairayah and Shewana walked out, both grinning like they'd just won the Super Bowl.
"You like it?" Chairayah asked, biting back a laugh.
I pointed at the tree. "What is this?!"
"It's Christmas," Shewana said simply, shrugging.
"But it's November!" I argued.
"Taylor said you'd say that," Chairayah replied, pulling out her phone. "She told us to remind you that Christmas cheer waits for no man."
Taylor's POV
The FaceTime call came through just as I was about to head to dinner. I answered it, and Travis's face appeared on the screen, looking equal parts amused and exasperated.
"Explain yourself," he said, turning the camera to show the tree.
"Doesn't it look beautiful?" I asked, smiling innocently.
"You didn't even wait for me," he complained. "I wanted to be part of this!"
"You said it was too early!"
"I didn't say you could go full Elf on the house without me!"
"Travis," I said, laughing. "You'll survive. Besides, now you don't have to untangle the lights."
He groaned but couldn't hide the small smile creeping onto his face. "You're lucky I love you, Swift."
Travis' POV
When Taylor got back a couple of days later, I was ready for her.
She walked in, dropped her bags, and gasped.
I'd taken the liberty of adding a little something to her masterpiece—a giant, inflatable turkey right in front of the tree. It was obnoxious and tacky, but I was proud of my work.
"Travis!" she yelled, laughing as she took in the scene. "What is that?"
"It's balance," I said, wrapping an arm around her. "If we're skipping straight to Christmas, we can't forget Thanksgiving."
She shook her head, still laughing. "You're ridiculous."
"Maybe," I said, grinning. "But you love me anyway."
"Yeah," she said, leaning up to kiss me. "I do."
And just like that, we found a way to make it work—Christmas tree and inflatable turkey, side by side.
