HOW HAS THIS FIC GOT ANY VIEWS WHEN IM IN MY FLOP ERA
Taylor's POV
I woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. My head was pounding, my throat was on fire, and I could barely keep my eyes open. But the sound of soft Christmas music playing downstairs reminded me of where I was: home, surrounded by family, on Christmas morning.
This was supposed to be perfect. A whole day of laughter, presents, and traditions. I couldn't ruin it by admitting I felt like death warmed over.
I forced myself out of bed, throwing on a festive sweater that I hoped would distract everyone from how pale I looked. As I shuffled into the kitchen, I found Travis already there, sipping coffee and chatting with Donna and Andrea. His face lit up when he saw me.
"There's my Christmas girl!" he said, wrapping an arm around me and kissing the top of my head.
"Morning," I croaked, immediately wincing at how awful I sounded.
"Whoa." He pulled back, studying me. "You okay?"
"Just morning voice," I lied. "I'm fine."
But Travis wasn't buying it.
Travis's POV
Taylor was the worst liar. Her voice sounded like gravel, and she looked like she hadn't slept in a week. I didn't want to push her too hard, but something was definitely off.
"Alright," I said, playing it cool for now. "Let's get some coffee in you."
She smiled weakly and sat down, but I noticed she barely touched her mug. She kept shivering, even though the fireplace was blazing.
When the kids started opening their presents, Taylor sat on the couch, her usual excitement dimmed. I knew she loved watching Wyatt and Eliotte unwrap gifts, but today she was quiet, just sitting there with a blanket wrapped around her.
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore.
"Babe," I said, crouching in front of her. "What's really going on?"
"I'm fine," she whispered, but her eyes betrayed her.
I pressed the back of my hand to her forehead, and sure enough, she was burning up.
"You're not fine. You're sick," I said firmly.
"I can't miss Christmas," she protested, her voice cracking. "It's your family's Christmas, Travis. I don't want to let anyone down."
"Taylor," I said softly, cupping her face. "You being okay is more important than anything else. Come on, let's get you upstairs."
Taylor's POV
I wanted to argue, but the concern in Travis's eyes made me stop. I didn't want to ruin the day for everyone, but I couldn't pretend anymore. I let him help me upstairs, each step feeling like it took all the energy I had left.
When I finally collapsed onto the bed, Travis tucked me in like I was the most fragile thing in the world.
"I'll be back," he promised, kissing my forehead.
I expected him to rejoin the family, but a few minutes later, he came back with a tray of tea, soup, and a small stack of gingerbread cookies.
"You didn't have to do all this," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Of course I did," he said, sitting beside me. "What kind of husband would I be if I didn't take care of you?"
I managed a small smile. "The best husband."
He grinned. "Damn right."
Travis's POV
Once Taylor was settled in, I headed back downstairs to update the family.
"She okay?" Donna asked, her brow furrowed.
"She's got a fever," I said. "I told her to rest."
"Good call," Kylie said. "Want me to bring her anything?"
"Nah, I've got it covered," I said, already heading back upstairs.
The day went on, and while the family enjoyed their Christmas traditions, I stayed by Taylor's side. We watched a cheesy holiday movie on her laptop, and I made sure she drank enough tea to fill a swimming pool.
By evening, she was starting to perk up a little. Her fever had come down, and she managed to eat some of the soup.
"Thanks for taking care of me," she said, her voice still a bit hoarse but full of gratitude.
"Always," I said, wrapping my arm around her. "And don't worry about missing anything. Christmas isn't Christmas without you."
Taylor's POV
As the snow fell outside, I leaned against Travis, feeling more loved than ever. Even though I hated being sick, I couldn't deny that this quiet, cosy Christmas with him taking care of me was one I'd never forget.
