"For the last time, Brad, I ain't interested." Star huffed.

"You can't knock it until you try it, Gorgeous! C'mon. One date. I'll prove to you I'm not like the other guys."

Great. This dick again. Brad was ALWAYS trying to get her to agree to a date with him. She always shot him down but he was absolutely bulletproof, and not to mention pushy and annoying.

"For the last time, I said no!" Star snapped, with a little more venom this time.

"Oh, come on! I've been nothing but nice to you! Don't I deserve a chance?" He begged.

"... Somethin' going on here?" Asked a familiar voice.

Thank goodness. Like a knight in shining armour, Marco Diaz had arrived on the scene, his aura of intolerance and snappiness ever present in his voice. He was a take-shit-from-nobody kind of guy, and that would ultimately be Star's saving grace.

"Just... getting this guy to stop pestering me..." Star grumbled, with annoyance.

She grinned as she pretended to look deep inside her locker, knowing that when it came to guys hitting on her or being creepy, Marco was the ultimate gentleman.

"Ay, she said no. Now shoo, y'hear?" Marco demanded Brad with his usual steeliness.

Brad scoffed.

"And just who do you think you are?!" He growled, annoyed Marco was putting a stop to his advances on the girl he liked.

"I'm the guy who's gonna kick your ass if you don't scram!" Marco spat, taking his toothpick out of his mouth.

This was infuriating... Marco was used to his classmates shutting up and doing what he said because they understood what kind of unpredictable guy he was, as well as his capabilities, but Brad dared have the gall to speak back to him!?

"Oh really? And I'm the guy who's finally gonna wreck your fragile little reputation! All these people may be frightened of you, but not me!" Insisted Brad.

What fun. He was actually speaking back against him? This was rare, not to mention threatening him. Marco wondered if a quick jab with his brass knuckles would humble him but... nah. Best to do it barehand. Shows what you're capable of.

"Oh, please, don't make me laugh." He chuckled, leaning on the lockers.

Star looked at them both, realising this was going a little far now and that maybe it was time to cool down. Before she could speak up, Brad had something to say.

"You're a real piece of shit, Marco! You're just the big bully of this school, and nobody here really likes you!" He scoffed.

"Don't gotta like me. Just gotta respect me. Now scurry along, pal. Before someone gets hurt." He jeered.

"What? You backing down from a fight!?" He shot back.

A crowd was gathering, and Star didn't like it. Brad suddenly felt his collar get grasped by Marco, one-handed. He popped his toothpick back into his mouth.

"You think pressuring ladies is fun, eh? Maybe I shouldn't let you go off the hook anyway."

People began to murmur.

"Yeah, yeah. Soak it all in, people. Maybe I can make an example out of ya..." He grinned.

Brad quickly raised his fist and punched Marco in the face, knocking him back. Everyone gasped, including Star. She was ready to Narwhal Blast this guy into the moon when suddenly... Marco's head lifted, completely unscathed. His pain tolerance was... very very admirable.

"Not bad..." he muttered.

"You want more!?" Demanded Brad.

"Cute. My turn." He grinned,

Marco, with absolute raw power and a great heavy fist, punched Brad back, and this HURT. A little dose of blood smacked onto the lockers behind and onto Star's cheek. Marco had totally just broken his nose. Everyone gasped louder. Brad hissed.

"Bastard!" He growled in pain.

"Get up, I ain't even started yet," Marco said sternly.

Brad got up and winded up another punch, which Marco simply stepped away from. Brad had to admit he was still a little woozy from that hit...

"Don't tell me you're gonna pass out already." Mocked Marco.

The pain was searing, he'd definitely broken his nose. But anger now gave Brad a new jump of energy. He bull-rushed him, hitting him into the lockers, which earned a swift and brutal punch in the gut from Marco.

Now they were throwing punches, and just simply fighting. Star tried to break them up, but it was no use, once you got Marco going he was in the zone.

Brad stood no chance against the Boxing champion Marco Diaz. The thing is with Marco, he wasn't just bark, he was bite too.

With one brutal punch, Brad leaned on the lockers, sat down slowly and passed out, just as the teachers arrived.

"See ya after school, Star." Marco grinned as he was roughhoused by 3 teachers away from Brad. He was bleeding a little bit but still looked just fine.

...

Star paced outside the Principal's office. He'd been getting an earful for over an hour now. When he was finally out, he received a slap across the face from her.

"Ow! What the heck?!"

"That's for being a brute!" She scowled.

But... she suddenly leaned into his cheek, kissing it gently, her lips lingering there just a little bit. She left a bit of lipstick smudged onto his face.

"But... that's for helping me back there." She huffed bashfully.

Marco turned red. In reality, he was a massive softy, and he just adored her attention like that.

"Ay... " He muttered, walking with her. "Don't mention it."

"So?" She asked.

"... I have detention for the rest of the week." He sighed.

"Only detention?" Star said in shock.

"I thought I'd be suspended too, but apparently if it's in the defence of somebody it's less severe..."

"... Thanks again, Marco. I'm not very confrontational like you are. I could have beaten up Brad if I wanted to but, y'know."

Marco grinned.

"Sure you could."

"I have magic, dummy!" She defended herself.

"Who am I kiddin', ya could beat me up." He laughed.

Star too laughed, enjoying the presence of her best friend.

"Damn right, stupid Diaz..." she gleamed.

They got home and looked at each other. Star admired his bloodied face, all the name of protecting her.

"Ugh... I hate you." She muttered, going a little red at his cheeky, gorgeous grin.

"The feeling is very mutual, I assure you." Marco smiled, enjoying the normalcy of their conversations.

And they went inside... Sure, they were definitely more than friends, or enemies for that matter, but their intimacy as friends still comforted them no matter what, even if it was romantic, or whatever.

As long as she had his back... he had hers.
