The Diaz household was glowing with Christmas cheer. Strings of multicoloured lights twinkled in the windows, stockings were hung along the fireplace, and the scent of cookies baking in the oven filled the air. It was Marco's favourite time of year, and this time, he had someone special to share it with.

Star Butterfly stood in the middle of the living room, spinning in circles as she admired the decorations. Her hands clutched a mug of hot cocoa, the marshmallows threatening to spill over the edge as she twirled. She wore a red sweater with a cartoon reindeer on it, complete with googly eyes and a puffball for a nose, and her cheeks were rosy from the warmth of the fireplace.

"Marco! This is so much fun!" Star exclaimed, her blue eyes sparkling as she plopped down onto the couch.

"I'm glad you think so, Star." He gleamed.

"You humans sure do know how to do Christmas... Stump Day at home really pales in comparison to this..."

Marco chuckled from his spot by the tree, where he was busy adjusting a crooked ornament.

"Well, we've had a lot of practice. Christmas is kind of a big deal around here."

Star took a sip of her cocoa, her eyes narrowing mischievously as she watched him fuss over the ornaments.

"You're such a perfectionist, Marco. It's cute." She blurted.

Marco's cheeks turned pink, but he didn't look away from the tree.

"I just want it to look nice," he said, trying to brush off her comment.

Star grinned at his timidness.

"Besides, it's Christmas. It's supposed to be perfect." He added.

Star grinned, setting her mug down on the coffee table and hopping off the couch.

"Okay, Mr. Perfect," she teased, stepping up beside him.

"Let me help." She demanded.

Before Marco could respond, Star grabbed a random ornament—a bright pink star—and hung it on the tree. But instead of placing it carefully like Marco had been doing, she slapped it onto the nearest branch and stepped back with a satisfied smile.

"There! Perfect," she declared, her hands on her hips.

Marco stared at the ornament, one eyebrow twitching. It was crooked and way too close to another ornament, and the branch sagged slightly under its weight.

"Star... you can't just hang it anywhere," he said, reaching out to fix it.

But Star grabbed his hand, stopping him.

"Ah-ah-ah! No touching. It's my masterpiece," she said, her grin widening.

Marco sighed, his shoulders sagging in defeat.

"Fine. But only because it's Christmas." He huffed.

Star beamed, clearly pleased with herself. She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a playful whisper.

"See? You're learning to let go. I'm so proud of you."

Marco rolled his eyes, but he couldn't help the small smile tugging at his lips. Star always had a way of making him forget about his need for perfection. She brought chaos and joy into his life, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

"All right, Star," he said, turning to face her.

"Since you're so proud of your decorating skills, why don't you put the star on top?"

Star's eyes widened, and she gasped dramatically.

"You want me to do the honours? Marco, I'm touched." She pressed a hand to her chest, clearly touched.

"Don't make me regret it," Marco said, handing her the glittering tree topper.

Star took it with a gleeful grin, but when she looked up at the top of the tree, her face fell slightly.

"Uh, Marco? How am I supposed to reach that? You humans make your trees so tall."

Marco smirked, crossing his arms.

"Guess you'll just have to get creative."

Star narrowed her eyes at him, clearly determined. She glanced around the room, and her eyes landed on the stepladder in the corner.

"Aha! That'll do," she said, marching over to grab it.

"Just be careful," Marco called after her. "I don't want you falling and breaking the tree. Or yourself."

Star stuck her tongue out at him as she positioned the ladder next to the tree.

"Relax, Marco. I've got this."

She climbed up the ladder, carefully balancing the star in one hand. Marco watched nervously, his hands hovering just in case she needed help. But Star reached the top without any trouble, placing the star neatly on the highest branch.

"Ta-da!" she declared, throwing her arms in the air.

"Star Butterfly saves Christmas!"

Marco laughed, shaking his head.

"Good job, Star."

She climbed down, and they both stepped back to admire the tree. It sparkled beautifully, the lights casting a warm glow over the room. Star sighed happily, leaning her head against Marco's shoulder.

"This is nice," she said softly, her voice losing its usual playfulness.

"Thanks for letting me celebrate with you, Marco."

Marco glanced down at her, his heart warming at the sight of her content expression.

"Of course, Star. Christmas wouldn't be the same without you." He said, almost in a trance.

Star looked up at him, her blue eyes bright and filled with something that made Marco's breath catch. For a moment, the world seemed to pause, the only sound the crackling of the fire in the background.

Then Star's gaze shifted upward, and her expression turned mischievous.

"Oh, look," she said, pointing above their heads.

"Mistletoe."

Marco blinked, following her finger. Sure enough, a small sprig of mistletoe hung from the ceiling, swaying gently in the warm air. His face turned bright red, and he stammered, "W-wait, how did that get there?"

Star grinned, leaning in closer.

"I might have put it there earlier," she admitted, her voice full of mischief.

"You know, just in case."

Marco's heart raced as she stepped even closer, her face inches from his.

"Star, we don't have to—"

"It's tradition," Star interrupted, her voice soft but teasing.

"You wouldn't want to break a Christmas tradition, would you?" She grinned evilly.

Before Marco could respond, Star leaned in and pressed a soft, gentle kiss to his lips. It was quick, barely more than a brush, but it sent a spark through both of them. When she pulled back, her cheeks were pink, and she looked at him with a shy but satisfied smile.

"See? That wasn't so bad," she said, her voice quieter now.

Marco stared at her, his face still red, but a small smile slowly spread across his lips.

"No, It wasn't." He panted softly

They stood there for a moment, the glow of the Christmas tree casting a warm light over them. The world outside was cold and dark, but in this little corner of the Diaz house, everything felt perfect.

"Merry Christmas, Marco," Star said, her voice full of warmth.

"Merry Christmas, Star," Marco replied, his heart full of something he couldn't quite name—but whatever it was, he didn't want it to end.

It became more obvious the more he thought about it...

Love.
