(Reece's pov)

There is someone who I assume is a parent in Marjorie's office as I walk in to find her. I decide to wait outside, to give them privacy.
"I've done it!" I can hear the woman yell, making me lean off the wall, and look up from my phone.
"What?" I hear Marjorie quietly questions.
"I've done everything I ever could for you Marjorie! And it all paid off. You turned out good, marrying into a family for money. Just like your mummy. I can't believe you managed to convince someone to love you though, I mean he must be pretty stupid to love all of this, maybe he just wasn't thinking with his head," I hear the other person laugh at her.
"I love him mum, and he loves me, truthfully," Marjorie tries to stand up for herself.
"Excuse me! How dare you speak to your mother like that! Disrespectful!" I hear a harsh slap ring through the office, and a whimper from Marjorie.

That's it. I cannot stand by and let that happen. I storm into the office, causing both women to turn and look at me.
Marjorie is holding her cheek, which is getting redder by the second, with tears in her eyes and her mother is standing over the top of her.
"Excuse me? This is a private meeting!" the older woman yells at me.
"Not too private what you are doing though. I heard that slap outside. How dare you put your hands on someone else, especially your daughter," I say, moving into the room slowly, until I eventually put myself in between Marjorie and her mother.

"You are in no position to talk to me about how I treat my daughter. You're that Knight clearly," she says, looking me up and down. I can feel Marjorie hold onto my arm that was behind my back.
"I am, unfortunately. I wish I wasn't a Knight, the name has a bad rep. But I am the man who will protect the love of my life from you," I say, glaring down the scum in front of me.
"Love of your life? Ha! You really fooled this guy good Marjorie. I can't believe you got him to think you guys are in love! My, my Marjorie. I could almost say I'm proud of you, but I won't," her mother laughs in my face, trying to look around me to Marjorie, but I just move in the way.

"Get out."
"What?"
"Get out now. Get off the property before I call the police. How dare you ever speak to her like that! She doesn't need you, she shouldn't even care if you're proud of her or not. I'm eternally proud of her, she is trying her absolute hardest to unlearn all the awful things you taught her, and she's doing a damn good job of it. She is trying her hardest to unlearn your awful 'advice', which isn't even advice by the way, it's just pure idiotic words. I can't put into words how proud I am of her, she doesn't need your fu- stupid opinion! So get out!" I yell, although careful not to use any swears, you never know when kids are near.
"Fine. I'm going. Good luck with that tramp," she comments as she walks out the door, slamming it behind her.

I scoff, before turning around to Marjorie, who just wraps her arms tightly around my waist.
"Gorgeous?" I don't get a response, but instead I can feel her sobbing into my chest, "It's okay, I've got you now."
I kiss the top of her head, holding her close as she holds me tighter and lets herself cry.
I slowly move us over to the sofa in her office, and sit us down, as she wraps her legs around my waist, moving her arms up around my neck, holding tighter.
"I've still got you. It was just easier to sit here, but don't you worry, I've still got you," I whisper to her, using one hand to support her, and the other to lightly scratch her scalp, knowing that comforts her.

We stay like that for a few minutes until I can feel her sobs lighten, and her breathing evens out, as I assume she's fallen asleep.
"I'm so sorry she is like that gorgeous. I will do everything to protect you from her, and her useless 'advice'. I love you," I whisper to her, kissing the top of her head.

I look to the clock in the room, and see that it had been an hour since everything happened, not a few minutes. But now it was 5pm.
Marj still has half an hour left of her shift, and I still have an hour and a half left of mine. I sigh, knowing I'll have to put her down and get back to work, I still have a few things to do anyway.
I slowly stand up, and gently lay Marj down on the sofa, pulling her legs and arms away from my body.
It takes a few seconds, but she eventually settles herself. I grab a blanket that she always kept in the office ever since the heating broke that one time, and gently drape it over her.
"I love you, sweet dreams, I'll be right back," I kiss her forehead, before slowly and quietly walking out the room.
