The hallways of UA buzzed with the distant hum of activity as Izuku and Kara made their way toward the support course workshop. The warm glow of the setting sun streamed through the windows, casting golden streaks across the walls. Izuku walked with his hands slightly clenched at his sides, his mind replaying All Might's words from earlier that day: "Are you still trying to be like me?"
It wasn't a scolding, but it hit with the weight of one. All Might's tone had been kind, yet there was something in it that made Izuku question himself. It was as though his mentor had seen through every layer of determination and doubt Izuku carried and placed a mirror in front of him. He couldn't shake the question.
Kara walked beside him, her footsteps light, almost absentminded. She hadn't said much since offering to accompany him to the support course, but her presence was comforting. Despite the awkwardness that still lingered between her and her brother, Izuku had become a constant anchor in her life. That, and she really didn't want to be left alone after such a grueling day of training.
"So... All Might gave you advice again?" Kara asked, breaking the silence.
Izuku blinked, pulled from his thoughts. "Uh, yeah. He just... asked me something." He rubbed the back of his neck, his usual nervous gesture. "It got me thinking about my costume and well, how I've been using my Quirk."
"My arms are time bombs, I cant rely to much on them now, I need to find a way to stabilize them," Izuku said clenching his fists.
Kara's gaze softened as she heard Izuku's words. She could tell he was still processing everything—All Might's advice, the pressure of living up to such a legendary hero, and now, the fear of relying too heavily on his arms. Her expression grew serious as she reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You'll figure it out, Izuku," she said, her voice steady but comforting. "You've always found a way when things got tough. I know you'll do the same with this."
Izuku offered her a small smile, but the weight on his shoulders didn't lighten. What if I can't this time? he thought. But instead of voicing his doubts, he simply nodded.
"Thanks, Kara. I just... feel like I'm running out of options sometimes," he admitted, before changing the subject. "Anyway, I think Melissa will have some ideas. She always has something up her sleeve. I hope she still has the gauntlet she lent me back at I-Island."
Kara blinked, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Gauntlet? What gauntlet?"
Izuku chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck again. "It's... a long story. I'll tell you later. But yeah, I really hope she's got it. It was a huge help when I was there, and I could use it for my training."
Kara tilted her head, still a little puzzled, but decided not to press him further. "Alright. Later then."
They continued walking in companionable silence for a few moments, until Izuku broke the silence again "Hey, how are you feeling? I know it's only been a couple of days since you joined UA, but... I want to make sure you're doing okay."
Kara smiled faintly at the question, appreciating his concern. It wasn't something she had expected from him, but it warmed her heart. "I'm doing okay," she said, a little more confidently than she felt. "It's been a lot to take in, but... I'm adjusting. Mina and the other girls are excited that I joined. They've been so welcoming, especially Mina. She's been showing me around and helping me get settled in." She hesitated for a moment, then added, "And Kai has really been guiding me, too. I think I'm going to be okay here."
Izuku smiled warmly "Kai has a way to make people feel better"
Kara nodded, her expression softening at the mention of him. "Yeah. He's been a huge help. I'm glad he's at UA too. I know we've both been through a lot, but he's a rock for me right now."
