Lurking darkness

The dimly lit room was thick with tension. Overhaul sat at the head of a long, dark wood table, his expression unreadable as he observed the man before him. Lex Luthor, the billionaire industrialist and mastermind, was lounging back in a chair across from him, a glass of whiskey in hand. The clink of the glass against the table echoed in the quiet room as Luthor spoke, his voice smooth and calculated.

"I've heard of your work, Overhaul. Your quirk-erasing bullets. Impressive," Luthor said, leaning forward slightly. "I'd like to help fund your project."

Overhaul narrowed his eyes, the sudden shift from his usual solitude to this meeting of potential collaboration making him uneasy. He wasn't used to sharing his work with anyone, let alone someone like Luthor. "How do you know about it?" he asked, his voice low, almost a growl.

Luthor's lips curled into a thin, knowing smile. "I never make business moves without knowing the full picture. You're not the only one who likes to stay under the radar, Overhaul. I understand the... potential of your project. And I can provide the resources to ensure its success."

Overhaul's gaze flickered to a set of plans and documents spread out on the table, his hand tightening slightly around his drink. "I don't want to make too much noise right now," he said, his tone hardening. "Superman is still a problem. And while I don't mind a deal, I'm not risking everything if he's still out there."

Luthor's smile widened, unfazed by Overhaul's caution. He leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the glass. "Superman won't be a problem. Not for long."

The door to the room creaked open, and in stepped a figure that instantly drew attention—a massive silhouette that seemed to cast a dark shadow over the space. The figure's eyes glowed a brilliant green, the intensity of them enough to make even Luthor pause for a moment before he continued speaking.

"This is Metallo," Luthor said, nodding toward the towering cyborg. "He has the capability to neutralize Superman... and his sister. Consider him an added insurance to our little arrangement."

Metallo's mechanical voice boomed, deep and menacing. "I'll be able to stop them both. No problem."

Overhaul's eyes shifted briefly to Metallo, studying the imposing figure. The confidence in the cyborg's words was unsettling, but Overhaul knew the importance of securing the right allies. If Luthor's promise was true, he could be the edge he needed to take his operation to the next level.

Luthor continued, leaning forward once more, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "You're not the only one with ambitions, Overhaul. The Titans are back in town. They're making waves, and with them, there are challenges to be met. As you know, All For One's vision of the underworld is in shambles now that he's locked away. It's time for someone new to take the reins."

Overhaul's mind raced as Luthor's words hit their mark. His eyes gleamed with cold ambition. A new world was unfolding, one where he could rise to power. With the Titans distracted and the old guard of villains gone, the time for him to step into the void was now.

Luthor's smile was sharp, like a predator sensing an opportunity. "We're offering you more than just funding, Overhaul. We're offering you the chance to become the new kingpin of the underworld. We'll supply the means, and you provide the vision."

Overhaul nodded slowly, the gears in his mind turning. "I'll need the right people... to secure the power."

Luthor's grin deepened, as if everything was already in motion. "Oh, I know just the people to help you with that."

Metallo stepped closer, his glowing green eyes narrowing as he gave a slight nod of approval. "The team I'm putting together will make sure the Titans and anyone else who stands in our way are eliminated. You'll have all the muscle you need."
