Returning to Normal?

"Bambina," she said softly extending her hand to touch her shoulder "We are home"

Maya stirred, groaning quietly as she opened her eyes "A'm tired" she whined as her eyes fluttered shut.

Carina did not have the heart to wake her up again, so she gently moved Maya's head from the window and made her way to the passenger door slowly opened it, and picked up the sleeping blonde.

Maya spent the next couple of hours in a deep sleep, letting the exhaustion of the previous weeks, finally catch up to her. Carina lay quietly next to her Baby observing her, the soft golden glow slipping through the crack in the curtains highlighting her delicate face. Brushing a falling string of hair behind her ear reminiscing about the events of the last weeks. Going from Maya isolating herself to slowly going back to where they were then she finds out Maya was holding herself back to slipping deep into her headspace then there was the appointment it was a roller coaster of emotions and she hoped this would be the last of it. She begrudgingly stood up made sure Maya was tucked in and placed one last gentle kiss on her forehead before quietly exiting the room.

She sat on the sofa, laptop on her lap answering emails. She was grateful that her boss was understanding of the situation to let her observe her cases and study from home, but she knew she could not stay like this for a long time she missed the hospital, the babies her heart longed for her old routine, but the thought of leaving Maya alone and vulnerable like this shattered her heart. She glanced at their bedroom door and then back at her laptop screen, deciding to distract herself with her work.

Hours went by spent staring at the laptop screen, she let out a deep sigh feeling the words on the screen blurred together, she set her laptop on the coffee table, and took off her glasses to rub her eyes she heard a door open, and she instantly look towards their bedroom, but instead of seeing Maya emerge from the bedroom, the door stayed close. She felt that sofa dip and Amelia's voice echo through the apartment "Good morning, what are you doing?"

"Work," she said glancing at the clock "It's a bit early for you to wake up on your day off." She remarked, shifting her focus to Amelia, noticing she was dressed up "Going somewhere?" she asked and Amelia nodded.

"Where is the hard-headed fool?" Amelia asked, taking a look around, but the blonde was nowhere to be seen.

"Hey!! I am the only one who is allowed to call her that" Carina said sternly causing Amelia to roll her eyes "And she is asleep" She added answering her question.

"Since yesterday?" she asked raising her eyebrows. For as long as she knew Maya, she was not the type to sleep in.

Carina sighed "Yeah she was so stressed last night about the examination and the steroid injection just threw her off nearly sending her to a panic attack i just hope that it works so we can return to our lives"

Amelia nodded sympathetically "Me too i miss working with you, and I know for a fact that the station misses Maya because Andy cannot stop complaining about how the new sub is ruining their dynamic," she said, smiling, remembering the nights the captain complained about the new Lieutenant.

The brunette chuckled "I will be back soon because sitting here not doing anything is driving me crazy, but I do not know about Maya yet" She knows that her wife will go back to work as soon as she can because like her, she gets restless.

They continued to chat about the hospital drama Carina was glad to take her mind off everything and just focus on the silly things that were happening outside their apartment. They heard the master bedroom door open and close They turned to look, and they were welcomed by the sight of a very sleepy Maya, dragging her small black blanket with her as she walked towards the couch and flopped next to her wife, laying her head on the brunette's shoulder "Good morning sleepyhead" she cooed, circling her arm, pulling the blonde closer to her, but Maya only answered with a hum nuzzling into Carina's embrace. "Still sleepy?" Maya gave a nod and another hum "You should have stayed in bed"
