Curve Out the Truth
It was the Monday evening and Sharael was found in his car staring off into space. His mind kept on reeling over the events that happened these past few days. To say it was eventful would be an understatement. Even his favorite playlist of Indie-rock songs playing in the background did not seem to interest him.
From time to time, he would grab his phone to check on something, only to later sigh in disappointment. Since morning he has been waiting for some text replies. One was from JJ and the other from Mia. However, it was the latter that concerned him more.
Sharael felt like he was going crazy. The girl was still ignoring him. Did she ghost him? Just thinking of that terrible possibility had him shaking his head in denial. He could not take it anymore and decided to later pass by their stall. Better to hear from the horse's mouth than to be left wondering.
Ding-Dong-Ding!
The sudden unique sound of a school bell pulled Sharael out of his thoughts, and he focused on the magnificent school building ahead. The Crowning Star Academy.
It was a renowned private school and very prestigious. Mostly students from affluent or prominent families were able to attend there because of the extravagant fees. The other few were the lucky bunch who were enrolled in through a scholarship.
Sharael was here to pick up Little Bee as planned. It was only natural the girl would attend such a school given her family status. He was even lucky to have found space in the crowded parking lot since most of the students hardly walked home.
Before long, the throng of students marched out of the school building, and the once quiet parking lot was filled with loud chatter. Normally, Sharael would just stay inside the car and wait for the teen. The car was eye-catching enough, hence easy to locate. However, this time she took longer than usual and he began to frown.
"Is she held up?" he wondered aloud.
The car door was soon pulled open and the girl hopped in. Sharael's eyebrows directly rose upon seeing she had already changed from the school uniform to some matching purple-black sportswear outfit. Now he understood the delay.
"Hey." Little Bee greeted sourly and threw her schoolbag to the back seat.
"Hey too..." Sharael greeted back while wondering if she was from having a bad day.
All of a sudden, the girl began sniffing around. Her round dark-brown eyes snapped toward the back of the car and then glanced at Sharael strangely. On the other hand, Sharael was on pins and needles. He had actually forgotten that crucial fact about her after learning the truth.
Little Bee was a freaking werewolf!
She must have easily caught a whiff of the gunpowder permeating inside the car after transporting the weapons he acquired over the weekend. The smell would not be foreign to her since the family guards carried guns. What's more, she survived a deadly abduction attempt not so long ago.
"What? Is the car smelling?" Sharael tried to act oblivious.
"No..." she answered uncertainly while still eyeing the back of the car.
Sharael could now see all the traits he had been ignorant to. He felt like slapping himself silly because, such minute details of her being a werewolf were so crystal-clear. Then again, he did not spill the beans right away for that was her secret to reveal.
Quickly, he changed the topic and said, "I thought you were given detention after school."
"Huh? Why would I?" Little Bee gave him a dirty look then turned her focus to the car stereo and changed the playlist.
