Bar Encounter at the Bar Counter

Days went by so fast and, within a blink of an eye, two weeks had passed. Although the attack rocked the famous Utopia Mall not so long ago, lives of the Meilanians still ended up moving on like usual. With juicy stories arising here and there_ like gossips of which celebrity did what and what not_ the attack was long forgotten from people's minds.

That was the thing about this nation and her citizens; they were like forgetful mosquitoes. Anything worth gossiping about that could divert away their attention, could easily make them forget the serious pressing matters. Plus, with the authorities keeping it tightlipped about the progress of the ongoing investigations and manhunt for the gunmen, the story had long lost its delicious flavor.

Back then when Sharael was safely bringing back Little Bee, they didn't even get to reach the Estate before being surrounded by the entire family guards. They were already alerted by the attempted abduction.

At the time, Sharael thought he would be met with a heroic reception. He had just saved their poor damsel-in-distress young miss from the big bad kidnappers. Surely there was to be hefty rewards. The mere thought already had him woolgathering. Alas, who would've known that trouble would follow him like a bad smell?

Such a simple hand over turned to be one complicated affair. Instead of a pat-in-the-back gesture and honorary appraise, the young savior was greeted by hostile detainment. The gunmen were still on the loose and all the bodyguards, who had accompanied them, were reported dead. Who's to say he wasn't in on the abduction plot as well? He was after all the number one suspect? So you can imagine the cold reception he got.

With no witnesses to back him up and an incapacitated Little Bee being one unreliable alibi, he had no choice but to willingly comply to be apprehended. He was dragged away into some secret underground dark room within the Estate. There he was grilled for hours' end.

His narration of the event happenings left them befuddled, but unfortunately it didn't help in easing their suspicions. Looking into his background, there were no peculiarities about his origins. He was just a normal guy in his early 20s. Then again, his outstanding skillsets were really puzzling. There was just something about him they couldn't put a finger on. Ultimately, they had to let him go but unwillingly.

Sharael, on the other hand, was left with a deep resentment. How they treated him was complete and unrepressed bullying. He couldn't believe that damn family would thank him with mistreatment after risking his poor life for their young lady. In truth as the Swahili phrase goes; the thanks of a donkey are always a kick.

After getting his rightful monthly salary, which only included his chauffeuring fee, he quitted the job without delay. "Hmph! These ungrateful cunts can just go and screw themselves," he scowled as he left the lush premises.

Obviously, the General tried to persuade him otherwise. But how could Sharael not see through his crafty intentions. That wily old fox only wanted to keep him close for a number of selfish reasons. One being that if he proved to be trouble, he would then be dealt with accordingly.

Presently, Sharael was back in his shabby bedsitter apartment, lying prostrate on the bed and staring up at the peeling ceiling. It was the weekend, so he had no classes. At such times, lazing around in his room like a crocodile basking in the sun was his normal order of the day. Not that he was proud of it, but after accomplishing almost everything back in the day, he was retired and in need of a good deserved rest. Being this normal was his way of a long-term vacation. Except now he was rendered jobless and in need for such part-time jobs to pay for rent, school fees and other necessities.
