(Y/n)'s POV
"I messed up my dough again!"
Ale whined aloud. Like me, she had been working on the dough for the bread she wanted to make today.
"What did you do now?" I turned to look at her dough. It didn't look... quite like mine.
She picked it up with her hands, "I don't know! It's so watery." It kind of looked like slime. After explaining, she let the dough fall back onto the counter. It almost slid off the edge, but she pushed it further back. "I don't understand. I followed the exact steps like the girl on TikTok showed."
Of course.
"Did you use 3/4 cup of milk?" I asked.
She froze, "I thought it was 1 1/4 cups of milk?"
"How did you mess that up?" I shook my head and laughed. I knew which TikTok she had seen since I had used the same woman's exact ingredients.
"I read the comments, and people kept saying to add extra milk for a thicker consistency, but they fucked me over."
I didn't blame her, it sounded like something I would do. "You should have added a bit more of the other ingredients, but hey it's okay. Just try again with the right measurements." I said, encouraging her.
"You're right, but I need to buy more eggs first." Ale sighed and my eyes widened at the empty egg cartons lying open beside her dough. How many batches of dough has she made? I knew she'd been up much earlier than me, baking, but I had no idea she'd gone through that many eggs. "I'll be right back," She wiped her hands on her shirt.
"Con cuidado," I said to her.
"Ya sé!" Ale shouted before finally closing the door behind her.
I went back to shaping my dough into small balls and placed them on the parchment paper on top of the baking sheet. Next, I grabbed some butter and coated each ball before finally taking the concha toppings I had prepared and placing them on top. I had dyed a few brown, kept some white, and dyed the rest pink for Kylian. Then, I took a small knife and carved a few lines into each topping to create the iconic pattern.
Now, I just have to let them sit for at least an hour before baking them in the oven.
Luckily, I didn't have to wait long to see how they would taste since I had already made another batch of the same conchas, and they'd been baking in the oven for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes was all they needed, so I put on my mittens grabbed the baking sheet with the conchas on top, and carefully set it on the stove to cool. "Please taste good," I silently said a little prayer, since I'd never tried this recipe before. I need them to come out fluffy.
There was no point in keeping the oven on for now, so I turned it off and planned to turn it back on when the hour passed for the other batch resting.
"It smells amazing in here."
Kylian's voice startled me from behind, I hadn't realized he'd entered the apartment. I must have been too focused. I heard him walk up behind me before feeling him press against my back. "What are you making?" He put his arms around my waist and whispered. I smiled, instantly feeling a chill.
"Your favorite," I whispered back.
"Can I get one?" He asked the moment he grabbed one, not bothering to wait. They had just come out of the oven, so they were definitely hot.
