"Ah Tee, Soi Tee, Ai Tee!!!!!!!"

"Hey! Hoi!!!!!!! What's up, Pa? Why are you shouting so loudly? If your voice is this loud, you should stop selling gold and start selling speakers instead. You scared me, you know?" Toey pulled my Pa's cheeks until they stretched, as punishment for startling his handsome son. We were so close, yet Pa shouted as if I was deaf.

"I've been calling you for a long time, but you didn't respond. You were just daydreaming. If a thief came, they would have taken all the gold by now."

"What thief would dare to steal from our shop, Pa? Look, today we have someone sitting here with a fierce face to scare off any thieves..."

Toey glanced at Ah Kow (aunt) and Jae (Sister) Kwang, who were unpacking gifts and criticizing the drama heroine with my Mama joining in. They left the staff to take care of the customers looking at necklaces and rings. It's so easy being the shop owner.

[* Toey's family is of Chinese descent, so they use pronouns borrowed from Teochew. (Ah) Kow (อาโกว) means father's brother or sister; Jae (เจ้) is the female equivalent of Phi.]

"Just seeing their faces would make any thief run away. Oi Jae! Haha!"

Actually, Jae Kwang was pretty in a Chinese way, not fierce as Toey joked na. Both Kow Kai and Jae Kwang glared at me.

"How dare you say I have a fierce face, Toey? Then you don't get this watch!" Jae Kwang yelled at me and took back the box of my favorite brand watch.

"What? I was just talking generally, I didn't even mention your name, Jae Kwang. Where's the watch? Where?"

Toey stopped paying attention to my surroundings and tried to grab the gifts Ah Kow and Jae Kwang brought back from England. They said they went to explore opportunities to expand their Chinese restaurant business, but Toey thought they went shopping instead. My mom had been unpacking the gifts since morning and still wasn't done.

"You two are playing like kids. You guys are grown-ups now." Toey wrinkled my nose at Pa. Grown-ups can play too, Pa. Bleh 😝.

"What's this, Ah Kow?"

"Which one? Oh... it's your mom's stockings. She asked me to buy them, and I almost walked around all of England to find them. But I bought two pairs. They're nice, haha."

"Wow, Ah Kow and Mama are so trendy. Fishnet stockings, how youthful! Look, Pa, haha. How did Mama know about these?"

"I saw them on Facebook, son. Celebrities wear them." How about that? Yeah that's Toey's Mama!

"Mama knows how to use Facebook? I just taught you how to turn on the computer yesterday. Okay, today I'll teach you how to find a side piece on Facebook."

"That's too much!" Pa quickly interrupted. You're just jealous, Pa. Toey knows na.
