Nobody quite understands what Fries sees in Evil Leafy, and everyone is still trying to figure out what draws him to her. They don't trust the relationship. Curious to uncover the appeal and understand how their dynamic even works, Coiny and Pin agree to go on a double date with them.

A few days had passed since the "Truest Self" competition. Fries had recovered and was back to his usual self—well, not glowing anymore—but something about him was... off. Everyone could see it. He seemed upset, annoyed... maybe even frustrated. He wasn't talking to anyone! Instead, he was completely ignoring everyone.
It wasn't often that the group all sat together like this. Normally, Pin and Coiny would be off doing their own thing, Nickel would find a way to pester Tennis Ball, and Needle and Book kind of hung out together—Needle was, after all, sort of half-Freesmart. But today was different. Everyone was sticking close, all eyes on Fries, who was acting strangely.
He paced back and forth, staring at his phone, his expression a mix of irritation and tension. He looked like he was about to call someone and start a fight. But who? Fries always seemed to be calling someone, so there were plenty of possibilities. But what could make him this angry?
"Whatcha all doing?!" Nickel's cheerful voice broke the tense silence as he leaned over Pin trying to see what they were all staring at. In reality, they were all huddled behind a bush, practically spying on Fries.
"Shhh! Nickel! Stop being a nuisance and shut up, please!" Pin snapped, shooting him a glare.
"Sorry... jeez," Nickel muttered, lowering his voice as he joined the group in their not-so-subtle surveillance.
"We're watching Fries," Needle whispered to him. "He's been acting weird lately..."
Just then, Fries stopped pacing. Everyone froze, holding their breath as he tapped something on his phone and raised it to his ear. Who was he calling? They strained to listen.
"Oh, now you answer?!" Fries barked into the phone. "I can't believe you! You totally embarrassed me in front of my teammate the other day, hanging up on me like that! I've been calling you for days, and you keep ignoring me! Not cool, E.L. Not cool!" He put a hand over his mouth, clearly trying to lower his voice but still visibly fuming.
"E.L... he doesn't mean..." Tennis Ball began, looking puzzled.
"Yeah... this adds up. He's been talking about Evil Leafy a lot lately... like they're, I don't know... close," Needle said nervously.
"No way," Coiny added, his tone incredulous. "I went down to that weird glowing cave, and he was totally fine with, like, holding Evil Leafy and even calling her his best friend! I couldn't believe it!"
They turned their attention back to Fries, still listening intently.
"Right, well, if you want this to work between us, then you need to put in some effort!" Fries snapped, his voice sharp. "I'm not going to deal with a one-sided relationship!" And with that, he hung up angrily, crossing his arms as he glared into the distance.
The group exchanged uneasy glances, the reality sinking in. Whatever was going on between Fries and Evil Leafy, it was serious... and definitely not what they'd expected.
"Do you think the chemicals from that glowing dirt messed with his brain or something?" Coiny asked, directing the question at Tennis Ball since he was known for being smart.
"Well... they could have, but since he died and was revived, everything should be back to normal. I think this goes beyond that," Tennis Ball replied, thoughtful. He glanced at Fries, then sighed. "I think I'm gonna go... this feels like a breach of privacy." Shuffling awkwardly, Tennis Ball stood up and left the bush—not that he was well-hidden in the first place, considering his size.
