Leafy asks her older brother, Tree, to give Firey a chance. Tree agrees—but only if Firey can prove himself on a valentine's double date with him and his boyfriend, Black Hole, alongside Leafy.

It was Valentine's Day, and Firey was determined to take Leafy out to a nice restaurant. There was just one problem standing in his way—her older brother, Tree.
Tree didn't trust him. He saw Firey as a reckless troublemaker who had played with Leafy's heart for years—one minute he liked her, the next he didn't! Not to mention the obvious: Leafy was a plant, and Firey was, well, fire. Fire burns plants. Tree had lost count of how many times Firey had accidentally singed his little sister! It was dangerous, and he wasn't about to let her get hurt, emotionally or physically.
But Firey was persistent. No matter how much Tree tried to keep him away, Firey kept sneaking over when Tree wasn't home, sending Leafy gifts, and finding ways to take her out in secret. He just wouldn't give up.
And today was no different.
Right on cue, Firey stood at Leafy's front door, nervously clutching a heart-shaped box of chocolates. A little bowtie sat awkwardly around his flame, and he fidgeted, hoping Leafy would answer.
Instead, the door swung open to reveal Tree, who, upon seeing Firey, immediately slammed the door in his face.
"Tree!" Leafy gasped, rushing to the door. Her tone made it clear she was not happy with her brother's behavior. Tree just rolled his eyes and stepped aside as she threw the door open again.
Firey rubbed his face where the door had hit him and gave a weak smile. "Hi, Leafy..." He avoided looking at Tree, knowing all too well that if he did, he'd be met with a death glare. "I, uh... got you these... but they're kind of melted now." He held out the heart-shaped box, looking a little sheepish.
Leafy's eyes lit up. "Aw, Fireball! You didn't have to! Don't worry, I'll just put them in the freezer. Come inside! Make yourself at home." She shot a sharp glare up at her brother. "And be nice to him!" she ordered before hurrying off to the kitchen.
Firey gulped as Tree loomed over him, staring him down. With a huff, Tree shook his head and turned toward the living room. Firey followed, grumbling to himself. This wasn't fair. No matter what he did, Tree never gave him a chance.
"Seriously, what do I have to do to get your approval?" Firey blurted out. "Why can't you just see that I love her? I'd never do anything to hurt her—"
Tree let out a sharp sigh, a few leaves falling from his branches as he shook his head. "No. I'm not letting you put her at risk. It's too dangerous. Do you have any idea how hard yoyle berries are to get around here? I keep ordering them just in case she gets burned—"
"Oh, come on!" Firey groaned, throwing up his arms. "That is such a double standard! Look at your boyfriend!" He jabbed a finger toward the other end of the couch, where Black Hole was hovering. "He's literally a black hole! You don't think that's dangerous?"
Tree scoffed. "He's not careless, that's the difference."
Black Hole glanced between them. "Uh... yeah, I'm... not careless?" he said, deciding to just roll with it. Though, honestly, even he thought Tree was a little too overprotective sometimes.
"Please, just give me a chance! I promise I won't mess up! You don't understand how much Leafy means to me!" Firey practically begged, desperation clear in his voice. He just wanted the opportunity to prove himself—to show Tree how much he loved Leafy and that he'd do anything for her.
