Blocky has a little secret, though anyone who knows him could probably guess it. When he slips into age regression, his usual mischief only doubles. Pen and Eraser do their best to keep him out of trouble, but somehow, no matter what they try, he always gets up to mischief. Blocky had a little quirk his friends knew all too well. Sometimes, without warning, he slipped into a younger mindset, full-on age regression. He had no control over when it happened, and half the time, he didn't even realize it himself. But Pen and Eraser had been his closest friends for years, and they'd seen it enough times to recognize the signs instantly. They'd taken it upon themselves to look out for him during those moments, making sure he didn't get into too much trouble.
Well... they tried to keep him in check. Success was debatable.
The giveaway was obvious: Blocky would suddenly strike the dumbest pose imaginable, feet hooked up over his head, arms stretched out wide, and a big goofy grin plastered across his face. That was their cue: he was regressing. Pen and Eraser had it memorized by now.
Not everyone else knew, though. To most, it just looked like Blocky being his usual chaotic self, a grinning little gremlin causing problems on purpose.
And today, it was happening again.
It had been about a day since that bizarre pair, Four and X, had shown up and roped everyone into competing for some prize. For now, though, the two hosts had called a break, giving everyone free time before the next challenge. Pen, Eraser, and Blocky had decided to spend it at the picnic benches, catching up about life on their separate teams.
Except... today wasn't shaping up to be a normal hangout.
Eraser groaned, leaning back with a scowl. "He's making that stupid face again..." His voice was half complaint, half dread. The last thing he wanted right now was to spend the afternoon chasing Blocky around like a misbehaving toddler.
"Aw, be nice, Eraser," Pen said, elbowing him lightly. "It's not like this happens all the time. And besides, we promised to be there for him when it does. Caregivers, remember? Bros don't let bros down."
"No, you promised," Eraser muttered, crossing his arms. "I never signed up for this."
Pen sighed, eyes fixed on Blocky. He knew the routine by now, once Blocky struck that ridiculous "feet over his head, arms out, goofy grin" pose, they had a few minutes of grace before the chaos kicked in. It was their only prep time before the storm.
"Maybe we just need to distract him," Pen suggested brightly. "Something safe. Like... drawing! Then he won't get into trouble!" Without waiting for a reply, Pen jumped up from the bench. "Watch him for one sec."
"Uh-huh, sure," Eraser muttered, already looking away.
Pen sprinted off and returned surprisingly quickly, arms full of supplies: a large blank notepad and a pile of crayons. He plunked them down in front of Blocky.
"Alright, Blocky, look what I brought you! Why don't we draw some shapes?" Pen smiled warmly, crouching down.
Eraser rolled his eyes. To him, this whole "age regression" thing still seemed suspicious, maybe just an elaborate prank. But... the glazed, excited look on Blocky's face as he uncurled from his pose made him hesitate. It was hard to fake that kind of wonder. Still... didn't make it less annoying.
Blocky's jaw dropped like he'd just been given the crown jewels. Without hesitation, he snatched up a crayon and began scribbling furiously, tongue sticking out in concentration.
