The Mekai, as a race of people, were inspired by the Jedi and Sith from the Star Wars films (I'm a huge fan!).
The Mekai believing in good and evil and even devoting themselves to either "light" and "darkness" was heavily influenced by the Force Users.
Certain techniques The Mekai have are influenced as well, like Ray's Angel Fist being based off of the Force Push.
