Ray's curse about the dark aura growing inside of him and eventually killing him from the inside out is inspired by a curse carried by Ashitaka, a character from Hayao Miyazaki's film, Princess Mononoke.
*Ashitaka is also the reason why Ray was chosen to be an excellent archer.
