One of the main reasons why Ren had the Thunder Bros. destroy the Nomekian Temple is so that all of its secret and forbidden records he used would be destroyed. Although he was teaching Dark Arts at the temple before his exile, he only taught his students what he wanted them to know- he didn't want anyone else to know everything he did.
