In my original design for The Mekai, as it is now, Ray and Ren began their rivalry in the 21st century.
A Mekai called the "Lone Warrior" and Ren lived hundreds of years ago, during the Middle Ages. The Lone Warrior imprisoned Ren, who promised to return to Earth and exact his revenge.
Nearly a milinium later, The Lone Warrior was reincarnated as Ray, who had no idea about being a Mekai or his past life.
