It was a day like no other when Five found himself crammed into Diego's ancient, creaky van for what was supposed to be a "fun family road trip." Diego had planned the whole thing—a scenic drive to a remote cabin in the mountains. Five had been against the idea from the start, but somehow, Y/n had convinced him it would be fun. Now here they were: Five, his wife Y/n, Diego, Lila, Luther, Viktor, Klaus, and Ben, all squished into Diego's beat-up van that sounded like it was held together by sheer willpower and duct tape.
"Why are we doing this again?" Five muttered, glancing at the dashboard where the radio was emitting static before randomly blasting 80s pop music. It had been doing that for the past hour, alternating between silence and sudden bursts of awkward songs.
"Because, old man," Diego replied from the driver's seat, "we need to bond. It's good for us."
Five rolled his eyes and glanced at Y/n, who was sitting beside him, bundled up in her oversized coat. Her breath was visible in the cold air of the van. "Bonding? In this death trap?"
"It's... fun?" Y/n offered with an awkward smile. "Plus, look at the views!"
The van hit a bump, sending everyone flying a bit in their seats. Klaus, lounging in the back, groaned dramatically. "This van is a nightmare. Does anyone else smell... gas?"
"No, that's just Diego's cologne," Lila teased from the passenger seat, earning a scowl from her husband.
Five sighed, rubbing his temples as a cheesy love ballad started playing on the radio again, much to his irritation. "Diego, you have to get this thing fixed. What kind of radio randomly plays only bad music?"
"Shut up, Five. We're making memories," Diego said.
"Yeah, bad ones," Five grumbled. "At least get the heat working. It's freezing in here."
As if on cue, the van's heating system let out a sputter and died completely. The air inside instantly grew colder, and Y/n shivered, huddling closer to Five for warmth.
Diego ignored him, squinting at the road ahead. "We're almost there."
"We've been 'almost there' for two hours!" Y/n said with a laugh, cuddling closer to Five. "It's so cold! How do you live like this?"
Five, always ready with a witty response, wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his side. "I'd say 'adapt or die,' but I'll settle for keeping you warm. I knew this trip was a bad idea."
Viktor, sitting quietly with his arms crossed, shivered as well. "Diego, maybe we should turn back. The weather's getting worse."
Lila, ever the joker, piped in. "Or we could pull over and set this van on fire. It'll be warmer at least."
Diego shot them all an annoyed look in the rearview mirror. "We're not turning back. And we're definitely not setting the van on fire."
Y/n giggled. "What if we just start a fire... with our love?" she joked, cuddling closer to Five. Five, however, gave her a deadpan look.
"We'd freeze before the flames even caught."
An hour later, Diego pulled into a gas station at the edge of nowhere. Snow was falling lightly, covering the ground, and everyone was desperate for a break from the cramped van.
"I need to pee again," Y/n said, unbuckling her seatbelt. Lila chimed in, "Me too. Diego, your bladder's going to explode if you don't stop for bathroom breaks."
Diego groaned dramatically. "Again? You two have the tiniest bladders in the world. You just went 10 minutes ago!"
"Well, maybe we wouldn't have to stop so much if your van wasn't as bumpy as a roller coaster!" Lila shot back.
As the ladies headed off to the restroom, Klaus hopped out of the van and stretched. "I think we all need a little more Zen on this trip. Why don't we meditate while they're gone? Maybe we'll warm up through inner peace."
Five rubbed his hands together to keep warm, eyeing Klaus. "You'd have to reach Buddha-level enlightenment to stop this from being a disaster."
Y/n came back after a few minutes, teeth chattering from the cold, and wrapped her arms around Five, who instantly pulled her into a tight hug. "It's freezing!" she exclaimed. "Are we really going to keep going?"
Diego was busy filling up the gas tank but overheard and called out, "Yes, we're still going! It's part of the adventure."
"An adventure?" Five repeated, his breath misting in the cold air. "More like a quest for hypothermia."
"You're no fun," Lila teased, hopping back into the passenger seat and adjusting her seatbelt. "At least we're making memories."
Five snorted, still hugging Y/n for warmth. "Yeah, memories of frostbite."
Back on the road, the van grew colder, and everyone huddled under the blankets they had brought. The radio randomly switched to a rock song, blasting so loudly that everyone jumped.
"Turn it off!" Viktor shouted from the back.
Diego fumbled with the controls. "I'm trying!"
As the van continued down the road, Luther, always the optimist, tried to lighten the mood. "Hey, at least we're all together, right? We could be stuck at home, doing nothing."
"Luther, I'd kill for 'doing nothing' right now," Klaus muttered from the back, pulling his blanket tighter around himself.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they reached their destination—a small, snow-covered cabin at the edge of a frozen lake. The group tumbled out of the van, stiff and grumpy but strangely relieved.
"Well, we made it," Diego said triumphantly, hands on his hips as he surveyed the cabin. "Told you we could do it."
Five glanced at the cabin, then at Y/n, who was huddled up next to him, her nose red from the cold. "I hate to admit it, but you're right. We made it."
Y/n smiled up at him. "See? It wasn't all bad."
Five raised an eyebrow. "You and Lila having to pee every ten minutes wasn't exactly helping the situation."
Y/n giggled and leaned into him. "At least we'll have something to laugh about."
Five sighed, his breath visible in the frigid air, but couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips. "Yeah, something to laugh about once I defrost."
As they all gathered inside the cabin, bundled up and sipping hot drinks, the group sat around a crackling fire, warming their frozen fingers and toes. Despite the chaos, the stops, the broken heating, and the questionable music choices, there was a sense of togetherness that none of them could deny.
Luther was the first to speak. "You know, this wasn't so bad."
Diego smirked. "Told you."
Five rolled his eyes but tightened his arm around Y/n. "Okay, maybe it wasn't a total disaster."
Klaus, ever the dramatic one, leaned back with a sigh. "If we survive this trip, we can survive anything."
Five looked around at his siblings—grumpy, cold, and disheveled—but happy. "Yeah," he said softly, squeezing Y/n's hand, "I guess we can."
