The day started with a flurry of activity. The Umbrella Academy mansion was abuzz with preparations. Allison was in charge of decorations, Diego was setting up a makeshift bar, Luther was organizing the snacks, Klaus was, well, being Klaus, and Viktor was trying to keep everything on track.
Y/n arrived at the mansion early in the afternoon, bringing a homemade cake and a bottle of champagne. Five greeted her with a kiss at the door, his usual stoic demeanor softening in her presence.
"Ready for the madness?" Five asked, taking the cake from her.
Y/n laughed. "As ready as I'll ever be. What can I do to help?"
"Just try to keep Klaus out of trouble," Five said, leading her inside.
Inside, the mansion was already looking festive. Glittering streamers hung from the ceiling, balloons were tied to every available surface, and a large banner reading "Happy New Year!" stretched across the living room.
"Five, can you hang these lights?" Allison called, handing him a string of fairy lights.
Five rolled his eyes but took the lights. "Why do I always get the high places?"
"Because you can teleport," Luther pointed out, not looking up from his bowl of chips.
Y/n watched with amusement as Five teleported around the room, hanging lights in perfect symmetry. Klaus, meanwhile, had found a stash of party hats and was trying to put one on Pogo, who was not having it.
"Come on, Pogo, it's festive!" Klaus insisted, earning a glare from the chimpanzee.
In the kitchen, Diego was mixing drinks, determined to impress everyone with his bartending skills. He handed Y/n a colorful cocktail.
"Try this. It's my special New Year's Eve mix," Diego said, watching her expectantly.
Y/n took a sip and coughed. "What's in this?"
"A little bit of everything," Diego said proudly.
"Maybe stick to something simpler," Five suggested, taking the drink from Y/n and setting it aside.
In the living room, Luther was arranging the snacks. Bowls of chips, plates of cookies, and an assortment of finger foods covered the coffee table. Viktor was adding finishing touches to a cheese platter, and Allison was arranging a fruit tray.
As evening approached, the mansion filled with laughter and music. Klaus had found a karaoke machine, and soon enough, everyone was taking turns belting out songs. Y/n even convinced Five to sing a duet with her, much to the delight of his siblings.
"Who knew Five could sing?" Allison teased, clapping as they finished their song.
"I have many hidden talents," Five replied, smirking.
With midnight approaching, everyone gathered in the living room. Y/n sat next to Five, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Ten minutes to go!" Diego announced, pouring everyone a glass of champagne.
Y/n and Five exchanged a look, both feeling the excitement of their first New Year's Eve together. Five reached for Y/n's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
The countdown began, and everyone joined in.
"Ten, nine, eight..."
Y/n looked up at Five, her eyes sparkling. "I'm glad we're spending this together," she whispered.
"Me too," Five replied, leaning down to kiss her.
"...three, two, one! Happy New Year!"
The room erupted in cheers, confetti flying everywhere. Five pulled Y/n close, kissing her deeply as everyone around them celebrated.
Klaus, true to form, decided to liven things up. "Time for fireworks!" he announced, running outside with a box of sparklers and fireworks.
Everyone followed, laughing and cheering as Klaus lit the first firework. It shot into the sky, exploding in a burst of color. Y/n watched in awe, her hand still in Five's.
As the fireworks continued, Five turned to Y/n. "This is a new beginning for us," he said softly.
Y/n smiled. "And I wouldn't want to spend it with anyone else."
After the fireworks, everyone returned inside for more drinks and snacks. Klaus was dancing around with sparklers, and Diego was trying to perfect his cocktail recipe. While Luther, Viktor and Allison were engaged in a heated game of charades.
Y/n and Five found a quiet corner, away from the chaos. Five wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close.
"Here's to many more New Year's together," Five said, raising his glass.
"To us," Y/n agreed, clinking her glass with his.
As the night wound down, the siblings slowly drifted off to bed, leaving Five and Y/n alone. They sat together, watching the first light of dawn creep through the windows.
"Happy New Year, Five," Y/n said, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Happy New Year, Y/n," Five replied, kissing her forehead.
And as they sat there, in the quiet aftermath of the celebrations, Five knew that no matter what the future held, as long as he had Y/n by his side, everything would be alright.
