"Where are we going?" Dexter asked.
He had been blindly following (M/N), letting the silence overcome them. He was a bit surprised (M/N) had knocked on his door, telling him to get ready and dress like from money.
If this was that celebratory dinner they talked about, it was about a week too late. Though, he hadn't seen much of (M/N) or Suna for that matter. Though, Jay hold told him this was normal and kept it short as he went back to Kita. Jay wasn't going to lighten up anytime soon.
(M/N)'s lips twitched up, their feet echoing off the pavement of the sidewalk. He could've taken one of the many cars he has, but he loved the fresh air and he loved walking. It gave him peace and nostalgia. Also, Suna took his keys for something else, so he was forced to walk. Suna took his favorite car.
"It's a great place. Small. Private. Hidden. You'll love it." (M/N) spoke so softly.
This place meant everything to him. Dexter could tell with great certainty that he would love this place, and if he didn't, Dexter would keep his mouth shut. (M/N) was showing a part of him that not many people knew. Suna and Jay were the only two, so this was a big step.
"Why didn't we just take the car?" Dexter asked.
(M/N) shrugged, "One of the best parts of something good is anticipation. The journey." (M/N) showcased his hand like a child copying a magician.
"Mr. Suna took the car, didn't he?" Dexter smiled.
(M/N) sighed out dramatically, kicking a pebble and letting his shoulders drop. "Yeah. Rin took the car." He nodded his head.
Dexter barked out a laugh, shaking his head. "Your mother did that all the time."
"Really?" (M/N) asked, looking at Dexter and hoping for more.
Anything to know the parents he couldn't. Wanted more. A glimpse. Something.
"Yeah," Dexter nodded. "Mainly to take you somewhere I said no. Then she'd use her eyes for forgiveness."
"But you always got back at her, right?"
"Of course. We teamed up. Though it never worked because you're a traitor and an inner spy for your mother."
(M/N) laughed to himself. Some memories were foggy and he couldn't remember everything that happened before Alizer, but most. Those were his fondest and earliest memories. It was the price to pay for a good laugh, really.
Dexter joined in the laugh, something soft overcame them. Dexter might not be in the category of father just yet, but building a bond is a good start to it. Even if it's just as a weird friendship before (M/N) can work his way to piecing his scattered thoughts to one.
"We're here." (M/N) said, stopping.
Dexter furrowed his eyebrows, looking around. (M/N) stopped in the center of a gross alleyway, flies circling dumpsters and even an alley cat. It was just a brick wall lining all the way down and Dexter slowly widened his eyes.
Maybe his son lost it, maybe he was just imaging a place. He probably has blunt force trauma to his mind, most kids would if they went through what he did.
"Right." Dexter hummed, "Very beautiful." He commented.
If (M/N) believed it, then he would pretend to go along. No harm in indulging his crazy mind and antics. Who was he to tell (M/N) there wasn't anything there? Not very supportive of him after years of not being, well... supportive.
(M/N) snickered at Dexter's reaction. He really could just leave it at this and set up a makeshift table from the dumpster and act as if they were eating, make Dexter sweat. But, he was kinder than that, than most as well.
